Beijing
After landing in Beijing, you'll be picked up and taken straight to your hotel. This is mainly a settling-in day, so take time to rest and get your bearings after the flight.

Beijing
A 2-hour drive gets you to Mutianyu, where the Great Wall stretches across the landscape. Built during the Ming Dynasty about 600 years ago, you can either hike up or take the cable car to reach the wall itself, then walk between the towers. Later in the afternoon, head to Summer Palace to see Kunming Lake and Longevity Hill, which served as a summer retreat for royal families during the Qing Dynasty.

Beijing to Xi'an
Start with Tian'anmen Square, one of the world's largest city squares, then walk over to the Forbidden City. You'll have a local guide showing you the main buildings and explaining the complex's history. After grabbing lunch, hop on a 5-hour bullet train heading to Xi'an and settle into your hotel there.

- Day 4
Xi'an
An hour's drive brings you to the Terra Cotta Warriors and Horses Museum, a major attraction along the Silk Road. In the afternoon, explore the Muslim Quarter and the old city wall that surrounds Xi'an.

- Day 5
Xi'an to Lhasa
Fly from Xi'an to Lhasa, Tibet's capital city. Once you arrive, you'll be met and driven to your hotel. The first day here involves taking it easy and letting your body adjust to the high altitude at 3,600 meters.

- Day 6
Lhasa
Spend the morning exploring Potala Palace, built in the 7th century and significantly rebuilt by the 5th Dalai Lama in the 17th century. The palace splits into the Red Palace for religious purposes and the White Palace for political use. After lunch at a local spot, walk to Jokhang Monastery, constructed in the 7th century and considered Tibet's most sacred site. It contains a sculpture of 12-year-old Sakyamuni that was brought here by the Wencheng Princess. From there, head to Barkhor Street, a large free market circling the monastery where you can pick up Tibetan souvenirs and follow the pilgrim route.

Lhasa to Chengdu
Visit Drepung Monastery, which means 'the hill of rice' in Tibetan and literally looks like one from Mt Ganpoi Uze. Founded in 1416, it was Asia's largest monastery at its peak, with 7,700 monks spread across 250,000 square meters. Next, check out Sera Monastery, meaning 'hailstone' in Tibetan, sitting at the foot of Mt. Peibuqie. Established in 1419, it had 5,500 monks during its height and has notable Ming Dynasty history. Later you'll fly to Chengdu and transfer to your hotel.

- Day 9
Chengdu to Chongqing
A 2-hour bullet train takes you to Chongqing. Walk through this modern city starting at Liziba light train station, known for trains cutting straight through tall buildings and making for great photos. See Ciqikou Ancient Town, an old port with stone streets and Ming-Qing era teahouses where artisans still make traditional porcelain. Explore Jiefangbei CBD with its Liberation Monument and high-end shopping areas lit up with neon signs. Try some snacks on Bayi Road, then check out Hongya Cave, a newer attraction with eleven levels of glowing houses built into cliffs above the Jialing River.

- Day 10
Chongqing to Zhangjiajie
A 3-hour bullet train brings you to Zhangjiajie. Head to Huangshizhai and take a cable car up the mountain to see rock formations standing individually. Watch out for monkeys in the area and keep your distance. Then explore Golden Whip Brook in the park's center, either taking the full 5.7km hiking route along the valley or choosing a shorter path to Jingguang Summit, the highest point in Zhangjiajie at 380 meters.

- Day 11
Zhangjiajie
At Zhangjiajie National Park, take a super elevator up the mountain to reach Yuanjiajie top in about 1 minute for incredible views. See the Heaven and Earth Pillar, the rock formation that inspired the movie Avatar. Then head to Tianzi Mountain Nature Reserve to capture wide panoramic shots. The area's known as 'the Monarch of the Peak Forest' and shows off four distinctive features: the Sea of Clouds, Moonlight Radiance, Sunshine Rays, and winter snow. Finish at Shilihualang (10-Mile-Gallery) where you'll take a one-way electric train and walk roughly 30 minutes on the way back.

- Day 12
Zhangjiajie to Shanghai
Drive to Tianmen Mountain and follow the road to the Gateway of Heaven, which has a distinctive glass walkway. Take the Tianmen Mountain cable car to see Tongtian Avenue (way to Heaven), Tianmen Cave (Heaven Gateway), Tianmen Temple, the glass walkway, Ghost-valley plank road, and Yunmeng Fairy Summit. You'll use a small cable first, then descend via the world's longest cableway at 7,455 meters long with a 1,518 meter elevation drop. After that, head to Zhangjiajie Airport to fly to Shanghai and check into your hotel.

Shanghai
Explore Shanghai with a local guide. Walk along the Bund, the riverfront of the Huangpu River, then see Yuyuan Garden, a beautiful older garden. Check out Xintiandi in the former French Colony area, visit Jade Buddha Temple, and take in other notable Shanghai spots.
