Treuchtlingen to Pappenheim
Today's hike takes you from Treuchtlingen to the medieval town of Pappenheim along scenic routes above the Altmühl river. You'll pass the Teufelskanzel viewpoint early on, then continue to Hollerstein lookout for more great views. After that, the route descends so you can walk alongside the river itself. By evening you'll reach Pappenheim Castle, an impressive structure that was once home to the Imperial Hereditary Marshals.

Pappenheim to Dollnstein
This hike follows panoramic mountain paths heading toward Solnhofen, a town known for its limestone mining and fossils dating back over 140 million years. From there you'll continue on to the 'Twelve Apostles,' dramatic limestone cliffs surrounded by juniper heaths that make for great photos. The day finishes in Dollnstein, located in the Urdonautal valley, so you're making good progress along the route.

Dollnstein to Eichstätt
You'll hike through forests and juniper heaths today, passing by the Burgsteinfelsen geo-monument along the way. After that, panoramic mountain paths lead you to Eichstätt, an episcopal city that's a real baroque gem. The town sits beneath Willibaldsburg castle and features impressive historic architecture and charming alleyways worth exploring once you arrive.
