Itinerary
- Day 1
Vientiane
You'll arrive at Wattay International Airport and head to your hotel in Vientiane, checking in early if they have a room ready. After settling in and resting a bit, there's a 45-minute drive out to Buddha Park (Xieng Khuan) where you can walk through over 200 Buddhist and Hindu statues scattered throughout the grounds. As evening approaches, take a stroll along the Mekong River to catch the sunset, grab a cold drink from one of the vendors, and try some local snacks from the food stalls set up along the water.

- Day 2
Vientiane to Vang Vieng
Your morning starts at That Luang, the holiest site in all of Laos with its golden spire that's hard to miss. From there, head to Patuxai (Vientiane's Arc de Triomphe) and climb the stairs to get panoramic views across the city. Next, you'll check out Wat Sisaket, the only temple that remained intact after the 1828 Siamese invasion, followed by Wat Phra Keo museum where you can see Lao and Khmer artwork. After lunch, transfer to the train station and take the express train to Vang Vieng, then get driven to your hotel for the night.

Vang Vieng
You've got a full day to explore what makes Vang Vieng special. Start at Tham Jang cave, a historic site that once served as a refuge, then move on to ThamNangfa (Angel Cave) to see the limestone formations and stalactites up close. Later, head to Blue Lagoon 3 for a swim and some relaxation in the clear water with lush greenery all around you. You'll also take a 30-minute cruise upstream on Nam Song River in a local long-tail boat, with optional stops at nearby villages and markets on the way back. Finish up by watching the sunset from your hotel.

Vang Vieng to Luang Prabang
Take the morning train to Luang Prabang, about an hour's journey, then transfer from the station to the town center. You'll visit the Royal Palace Museum to see a range of interesting artifacts, then explore Wat Mai with its golden bas-relief decorations. Continue on to the historic Wat Sene and the magnificent Wat Xiengthong, known for its two-tiered roof and ornate mosaics including a beautiful tree of life made from glass pieces. If time allows, check out Ban Xangkhong Thai Lue village for arts and crafts, or Ban Xienglek village where they specialize in traditional Saa paper. Take a short walk through the city center streets before climbing Mount Phousi to see the sacred gilded stupa and catch panoramic sunset views. End your day at the famous Night Market browsing handmade textiles.

Luang Prabang
Travel downstream by boat on the Mekong River to Ban Chan Pottery Village, where you'll tour the village's history and explore the pottery center, traditional kiln, and brick factory. You'll have the chance to create your own pottery souvenir using traditional Lao techniques, and your finished piece will be fired and delivered to your hotel in 3-7 days (depending on weather). Grab lunch on the terrace overlooking the river before heading back by boat. In the afternoon, cruise upstream on the Mekong River past countryside scenery, then visit the mysterious Pak Ou Caves, a 16th century cave monastery filled with thousands of Buddha images located 25 kilometers north of Luang Prabang. Along the route, stop at Ban Muang Keo village to see how traditional Lao rice whisky is made. Return to Luang Prabang by boat.

Luang Prabang
Rise early to take part in the daily morning alms giving ceremony, a sacred tradition dating back to the 14th century where more than 200 Buddhist monks gather their daily meals from local residents. Afterward, visit the temporary morning market near the former Royal Palace where locals trade the day's catch including rice, vegetables, fish, and chicken. After breakfast, transfer to Kuang Si waterfalls, the largest in the Luang Prabang area, with three tiers dropping 50 meters into azure pools where you can swim. There's an optional visit to the Bear Rescue Center if you're interested in seeing rescued animals. Later in the afternoon, stop by the Butterflies Park to enjoy tea and homemade cookies in a quiet garden setting. Before the day ends, visit the Ock Pop Tock Living Craft Center near the Mekong River to watch weavers, spinners, and batik makers at work, with free tours available every half-hour.
