Itinerary

  1. Day 1

    Stellenbosch to Franschhoek

You'll start early and cycle from Stellenbosch toward Franschhoek on a 45-50 km route that mixes off-road trails with the historic Helshoogte Pass. The ride takes you through Banghoek Valley where you might see Eland and Oryx moving across the landscape. Around midday, there's a coffee break at Boschendal to catch your breath and refuel. After that, you'll continue on to a Franschhoek wine estate for lunch and wine tasting to finish the ride properly. By afternoon you'll transfer to your guesthouse, and then you can head out to one of the local restaurants for dinner on your own.

  2. Day 2

    Franschhoek to Botrivier

This is a longer ride at around 60 km, cycling through plantations and winelands while tracing Theewaterskloof Dam with mountain and fynbos views throughout. If you want more intensity, Franschhoek Pass is there for the climbing, but if you'd rather skip it you'll get a scenic drive to your starting point instead. From there you pedal gravel routes and Van der Stell Pass road heading toward Botrivier. Lunch happens at a wine estate midway through, and then you transfer to your wine farm accommodation. Later in the evening your guides prepare a traditional South African Braai dinner for the group.

Once you reach Hermanus, lunch comes with ocean views so you can sit and take in the coastline. After eating, there's free time to wander around the seaside village at your own pace. Late afternoon you'll cycle back to Stellenbosch via Clarence Drive, which offers sparkling sea vistas the whole way. The service level of this tour was good in most aspects, and I especially enjoyed the input of and interaction with members of the guides team. Same with the route choice and the quality of food and accommodation. The one thing that Tourradar fell seriously short in was the choice of e-bikes. Although I had in advance indicated my length (1.95m) in the application, I was given a standard-size bike, and when complaining about the height of the handlebar I was told that there was no alternative. This seriously reduced the level of comfort when biking.
