Itinerary
- Day 1
Dar es Salaam to Nyerere National Park
You'll head out in the morning toward Nyerere National Park, which takes about 4 to 5 hours to reach. There's a lunch break built into the drive so you won't be traveling the whole time without food. Once you arrive, you'll get straight onto a boat for an afternoon safari on the Great Rufiji River starting around 4 PM and continuing until sunset. From the water you'll see hippos and crocodiles up close, and you can watch for elephants and other wildlife along the riverbanks while spotting various birds too.

Nyerere National Park
This is a full day exploring Nyerere National Park by 4x4 vehicle. The park is Tanzania's largest at 30,200 square kilometers, so there's a lot of ground to cover across different sections. You'll have good chances to photograph elephants, lions, wild dogs, buffalos, bushbuck, impalas, elands, baboons, zebra, wildebeest, and greater kudu. Your driver will take you through areas where wildlife congregates, giving you multiple opportunities to see animals throughout the day.

Nyerere National Park to Dar es Salaam
Before sunrise you'll set out on a walking safari with an armed ranger for about 2 to 2.5 hours, which lets you experience the landscape on foot and look for smaller creatures you might miss from a vehicle. Your guide will point out animal tracks and droppings to help you understand what's moving through the area. After returning to camp for breakfast, you'll drive back toward Dar es Salaam with a packed lunch provided. The day ends with a drop-off at your hotel, the ferry terminal, or the airport depending on where you need to be.
