Rocamadour
You'll arrive at Hotel Les Esclargies, a family-run 3-star place situated in parkland just outside Rocamadour's medieval walls. After settling in, take some time to wander through the town's old alleyways before heading down to dinner, which is included with your stay.

Thezel to Carennac
Following breakfast, you'll transfer upstream to Thezel where you'll get a canoe briefing and some basic instruction. From there, paddle downstream through the Dordogne landscape to Carennac, a village known for its 16th century architecture. Your riverside hotel has an outdoor pool for later in the day.

Carennac
Spend the day checking out Carennac's medieval streets, turreted manor houses from the 16th century, old ramparts, and the priory. You can take walks through the village and onto the surrounding causse plateau for views over the Dordogne valley. If you're interested, bike rentals are available or you can take a taxi to Gouffre de Padirac caverns.

Carennac to Meyronne
Paddle downstream today past towering riverside cliffs and four notable chateaux before reaching Meyronne. You'll be staying at an 11th century chateau hotel, so check in and explore your surroundings once you've arrived.

Meyronne
You have flexibility here. Either relax by the hotel pool or walk around the south bank and see Rochers Sainte-Marie and Grotte de Lacave. Rocamadour, which is France's most important religious pilgrimage site after Mont St-Michel, can be reached by taxi or if you're up for it, by cycling or walking routes.

Meyronne to Souillac
Today's a relaxed paddle downstream with nice scenery along the way. Watch for Belcastel and Chateau de la Treyne, both impressive sights set along the riverbank as you make your way downstream.

Souillac
After your paddle, head to Souillac, a busy town with good shopping and a local market if you're there on the right day. The 12th to 13th century abbey church is worth seeing, particularly for its carved stone reliefs. If you're interested in something different, the Musee de l'Automate holds France's largest mechanical toys and dolls collection.

Souillac to Sarlat
Start with an easy canoe paddle through Perigord countryside, passing through St-Julien before reaching Grolejac. There's plenty of time to stop for swimming or just rest on the river. After you finish paddling, you'll transfer to Sarlat and walk around the Old Town to see its historic architecture.
