What people love about touring Kerala solo
- The best of Kerala in 9 days with idyllic houseboat and relax
As the only person booked on the tour (wasted single supp) it effectively became a private tour. It was a good way to see a lot of Kerala in a relatively short without the hassle of organising everything yourself. However I normally travel on my own, making my own bookings so in some ways it was less enjoyable having no choice. But everything is a trade off. My 3'drivers, Nelson John and Muni were very pleasant and helpful though there were some language difficulties. In the way the hotels were comfortable and the houseboat was great. The best bits were being up in the hills, the houseboat and Kovalam.. The worst bits were the long days in the back of a car, the trips on the visit to the tip of India, too crowded and borimg and the hotel near Munnar. It was effectively closed, I was the only guest, the dinner choice was v limited (and in the country so no other options) and there's was no hot water. The staff were lovely but being the sole guest is slightly creepy. However, overall I enjoyed it and Kerala is a wonderful place to visit.
- Trip to God's Own Country
Perfect and one of the best tours we had this year.
- Highlights of Southern India - Kerala with Houseboat Stay
We were looking for a holiday of a lifetime to 'celebrate' our anniversary. We asked for quote for many companies but the one that caught our eye was K K Holidays. Everyone that we dealt with at K K Holidays could not have been more helpful and kind. We booked this South India Tour with them.We were slightly worried because we were going a long way away and had never done a holiday like this before. We were met at the airport as arranged and were looked after from that moment on. We had a wonderful tour of the ‘South India' for a week. We had our own driver, Babu and we picked up a guide at each town. Every hoteI provided to us were upto the mark . Food was good . Overall a great trip. Can't wait to go back one day . Thanks

What type of support is available for solo travelers during the tour?
Kerala's network of tourist-friendly regions provides strong support for those traveling alone. The waterways of Alleppey and Kumarakom offer guided boat tours while Munnar's tea estates feature well-marked walking trails. Group safaris run regularly at Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary. Fort Kochi serves as a convenient base with hotels like Hotel Casino positioning travelers near group activities and guided walks. A TourRadar traveler shares: "The houseboat experience in Alleppey was the highlight - perfect for meeting other travelers while enjoying Kerala's beauty."
What percentage of travelers on Kerala tours are typically solo travelers?
Solo travelers make up between 40-60% of Kerala tour participants creating a social atmosphere on most excursions. The popular 7-day Backwaters of Kerala tour by MTA Destination Management Company draws more than half its bookings from independent travelers. These guests often connect during guided walks through Munnar's tea gardens or while staying at premium properties like Niramaya Retreats. A TourRadar traveler notes: "The driver Nauful was always proficient polite and made solo travel completely comfortable throughout Kerala."
Are there any women-only tour options in Kerala?
Kerala offers dedicated women's tours like the 11-day Women Special Kerala Tour run by Golden Triangle India Tours. These specialized itineraries cover Fort Kochi Munnar and Kovalam with female guides and drivers throughout. Accommodations focus on vetted properties such as Peppervine Thekkady while activities cater to women's preferences. A TourRadar traveler reports: "As a solo female traveler I felt completely at ease throughout the journey."
What are the safest areas in Kerala for solo travelers?
Fort Kochi Munnar and Kumarakom stand out as secure destinations with reliable tourism infrastructure and helpful residents. Tourist police regularly patrol major attractions including the Chinese Fishing Nets and Eravikulam National Park. A TourRadar traveler confirms: "Kerala is incredibly safe - from the tea plantations of Munnar to the backwaters of Alleppey I felt completely secure as a solo traveler with the excellent guides and friendly locals."
What are the most popular areas in Kerala for solo travelers to feel comfortable and safe?
Fort Kochi welcomes independent travelers with its pedestrian-friendly historic center and busy cafe scene on Princess Street. Munnar provides protected hiking routes through tea estates and national parks while Alleppey features supervised boat excursions. Kovalam's beach zone gets high marks for security with one TourRadar reviewer noting "Our driver was excellent and made sure I felt safe as a solo traveler especially around Kovalam and Fort Kochi areas." The Uday Samudra Leisure Beach Resort in Kovalam maintains strong security protocols.

The period from October through March brings mild weather and peak visitor numbers to Kerala. November to February sees the highest tour bookings making it easier to meet fellow travelers.
