What our customers ask about 2 Week Safari
How many national parks do you visit on a 2 week safari?
Most 2 week safaris take you to 4-7 main national parks and reserves. If you're doing Kenya and Tanzania together, you'll typically visit Maasai Mara, Serengeti, Lake Nakuru and Amboseli. In Uganda, the route usually covers Murchison Falls, Queen Elizabeth National Park, Kibale Forest and Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. As one TourRadar traveler shared: "We visited 5 different parks in 14 days, each offering unique landscapes and wildlife - from savannah in the Mara to rainforest in Bwindi."
When is the best time to go on a 2 week safari?
The timing really depends on which region you're visiting. For Kenya and Tanzania, plan your trip between July and October to catch the Great Migration when temperatures are around 75°F (24°C). If you want to see gorillas in Uganda, go during the dry seasons - either June to September or December to February when it's about 70°F (21°C). For Botswana safaris, May to October is perfect with temperatures between 50-77°F (10-25°C) - that's when animals gather around water sources. One TourRadar traveler told us: "We went in July and the weather was perfect for game viewing - not too hot and animals were very active."
Which places do most 2 week safaris visit?
Most tours take you to Kenya's Maasai Mara, famous for the wildebeest migration, Uganda's Bwindi Impenetrable Forest where you can track mountain gorillas, and Tanzania's Serengeti National Park with its incredible wildlife numbers. Many travelers love visiting Botswana's Okavango Delta for water safaris and Chobe National Park, home to Africa's biggest elephant population. You'll stay at places like Sarova Lion Hill Lodge by Lake Nakuru or Mara Sopa Lodge right in the Maasai Mara.
Where do you stay during a 2 week safari?
You'll find a mix of lodges and tented camps, all picked for their great wildlife viewing locations. Some nights you might be at Mara Sopa Lodge with its amazing views over the Mara, other nights at places like Simba Safari Camp in Queen Elizabeth National Park, which has nice rooms with private bathrooms. The Ark Lodge in Aberdare is really special - you can watch animals at night from viewing decks. One TourRadar traveler mentioned: "The lodges were beautiful, especially Kipalo Hills in Tsavo with its breathtaking views and the Turaco Treetops bordering Kibale Forest, where you could watch wildlife from your private balcony."
What cultural activities do safaris include?
You'll get to visit Maasai villages in Kenya's Masai Mara and around Tanzania's Ngorongoro area, where locals show you their way of life. Tours often stop at local schools and markets in the Serengeti, and if you're staying at Mara Leisure Camp, you can watch traditional performances in the evening. Many travelers say meeting the Hadzabe bushmen near Lake Eyasi and exploring the markets in Arusha were highlights of their trip.
What kind of vehicles do you use on safari?
You'll ride in specially equipped 4x4s, usually Toyota Land Cruisers with roofs that pop up so you can stand and watch wildlife. In Kenya, some tours use safari vans, while in Tanzania they stick to sturdier 4x4s. One TourRadar traveler said: "The vehicles were comfortable with guaranteed window seats and plenty of space for camera gear." Each car fits 6-7 people so everyone gets a good view, and they always carry water and first-aid supplies.
