You'll be looking up a lot to see the detailed architecture. One traveler noted: "The Old Town walking tour gave us amazing insights into Latvian history, but wear layers as mornings can be chilly even in summer." On day 2, take a quick train ride to Jurmala, a seaside resort just 25 minutes from Riga Central Station. Look for the unique wooden villa architecture you won't find anywhere else in the Baltics. Day 3 is perfect for an optional trip to Gauja National Park. Visit Turaida Castle in the afternoon when there are fewer tourists.

      Helsinki and Southern Finland

Take the 2-hour ferry from Tallinn to Helsinki. Sit on the right side for the best views of Helsinki's harbor. You'll notice right away how different the Finnish capital feels with its wide streets and Nordic design. Get to the Church-in-the-Rock at 9:45am to beat the crowds. Take a 2-hour train ride through scenic countryside to Lappeenranta. The Lake Saimaa evening cruise is a highlight but bring a jacket. The lake gets chilly even in summer. Spend your last day in Helsinki's Design District. Plan your shopping early since many stores close early on weekends. A recent visitor shared: "The mix of medieval Tallinn and modern Helsinki really showed the contrast between Baltic and Nordic culture. The Lake Saimaa cruise was magical in the long summer evening light."
