10 Day Botswana Safari Itinerary, incl. Okavango Delta and Chobe
The 10-day wildlife tour spans 7 destinations from Maun to Kasane. Paddle Okavango Delta's waterways, spend 2 nights in Moremi Game Reserve, visit Khwai Concession's lagoons, and watch predators in Savuti before concluding at Chobe National Park.
- Day 1
Maun Arrival
- Day 2
Okavango Delta
Drive 2.5 hours to reach the Okavango Delta for your first mokoro (traditional canoe) experience. Wildlife viewing is best in early morning or late afternoon when it's cooler. Your clothes will likely get wet during mokoro transfers, so pack quick-dry options. Stay close to your experienced poler who knows safe routes away from hippo territory.
- Days 3-4
Moremi Game Reserve
- Day 5
Khwai Concession
- Days 6-7
Savuti
Take a 4-hour drive to Savuti, a prime spot for seeing predators. Look for lions around the Savuti Marsh area. You can visit ancient Bushman rock paintings if time allows. Animals gather near the Savuti Channel in dry season (May-October). Your camera equipment will need protection from the heavy dust.
- Days 8-9
Chobe National Park & River
- Day 10
Departure from Kasane
10 Days in Botswana Safari, incl. Okavango Delta and Chobe
A ten-day wildlife tour features Botswana's premier regions: 2 nights each at Leroo La Tau, Xugana Island Lodge, Savute Safari Lodge, and Chobe Game Lodge. The final night at Ilala Lodge near Victoria Falls caps the adventure with game drives, boating safaris, and walking expeditions.
- Days 1-2
Central Kalahari & Makgadikgadi Pans
Start your journey with a bush flight from Maun to the Kalahari, taking about an hour. November to May brings migrating herds and their predators. Pack light-colored, breathable clothes for hot days that can hit 95°F. Night drives are great for spotting leopards, but bring warm layers as it gets quite cold after dark.
- Days 3-4
Okavango Delta
Fly north to Xugana Island Lodge. Water levels change with the seasons, which affects available activities. Go on morning mokoro trips to see birds and small animals. Remember neutral colors and binoculars. For walking safaris, wear closed shoes that can handle water. Plan your schedule around flights, which usually leave Maun by 2 PM.
- Days 5-6
Savute (Chobe National Park)
The flight to Savute shows off the changing landscape below. Watch lions and hyenas compete for territory, and see large elephant herds. Summer game drives start at 5:30 AM to catch predators in action. Water levels in the Savute Channel change often, so keep your plans flexible. Bring a camera with a good zoom lens to photograph cheetahs in the grasslands.
- Days 7-8
Chobe Riverfront
Take a quick flight to Kasane to reach the Chobe River area. Between September and November, you might see elephant herds with over 100 animals. Take afternoon boat trips for better photos. Try to get window seats on boats for the best views. Go on early morning drives to avoid crowds from Victoria Falls day trips.
- Days 9-10
Victoria Falls Extension
10 Days in Southern Africa, incl. Okavango Delta and Victoria Falls
This 10-day safari highlights Botswana's natural wonders. Visit Khama Rhino Sanctuary, spend two nights in Okavango Delta, explore Makgadikgadi Salt Pans, and cruise Chobe River. Professional guides lead activities from scenic wilderness campsites.
- Days 1-2
Johannesburg to Khama Rhino Sanctuary
Begin your Southern Africa journey in Johannesburg. Visit the Apartheid Museum when you arrive. "It's crucial context for understanding modern South Africa," according to one traveler. The 6-7 hour drive to Khama takes you across the Botswana border. You'll spot rhinos on evening game drives. Remember to pack warm clothes since desert nights get cold.
- Days 3-4
Maun & Okavango Delta Entry
Drive 6 hours to Maun, your gateway to the Okavango Delta. Buy supplies here before heading into the wilderness. The next day involves a 2-3 hour 4x4 ride to the delta's edge followed by traditional mokoro canoe transport. One guest shared: "Being poled silently through the waterways by local guides while hippos grunted nearby was absolutely magical - but bring a dry bag for camera gear!"
- Days 5-6
Okavango Delta Bush Camping
Spend two days exploring delta channels and islands by mokoro and on foot. Wildlife viewing is best during early morning walks. You'll likely see elephants, giraffes and various antelope. You'll camp on remote islands with basic facilities including dig-your-own toilets. A traveler noted: "The lack of facilities is worth it for the incredible stargazing and falling asleep to wild Africa's nighttime chorus. Just bring a headlamp - it's essential for nighttime bathroom trips!"
- Day 7
Nata & Makgadikgadi Salt Pans
- Day 8
Chobe National Park
- Days 9-10
Victoria Falls
Cross into Zimbabwe for two days at Victoria Falls. Water flow peaks February through May but expect to get wet. Low water season lets you swim in Devil's Pool right at the edge. A recent visitor recommended: "Book the helicopter flight first thing in morning for best lighting and visibility before the mist builds up. The 'Flight of Angels' gives you the same amazing views as longer flights for less cost."
What people love about 10-day Botswana tours
- Okavango Experience
This trip was AMAZING! Everything was well planned, and super exciting and adventurous.
- Botswana Adventure (7 destinations)
This 10-day trip through Botswana was better than expected. Now have lots more photographs of animals in the wild than I'd expected to get. To see such a large group of hippos in the water and to have lions walk by casually were much more than I'd seen in Kruger Park. Some of the travel by road was taking a lot of time and accommodation on the houseboat was a bit cramped. But in the end that was part of the fun as a way of meeting up with others who felt the same way.

Gail was the hero of our tour! Would recommend her as a guide to my friends.
