Luxury South Africa Tours & Trips Reviews
- Journeys: Explore Cape Town & Kruger National Park National Geographic Journeys
Trip of a lifetime! Absolutely loved every minute and I am telling all my friends to go!
- Addo - Garden Route - Cape Town Chauffeur Drive Tour: 6 Days
Our tour guide Paul has been excellent with organising the trip, suggesting reasonably priced restaurants and extra activities. Paul did his best to ensure we were able to see and do everything we wanted and even changed the itinerary to suit our interests. Paul ensured that we were safe the whole time and was always contactable before and during our tour. Paul’s knowledge on all the locations was excellent and he knew all the best times and tricks for the tourist destinations. Our accommodation was comfortable and situated in good locations. The food was great and we were never hungry. We added the extra day in Cape Town which we thought was well worth the time and money. Overall, Paul has been excellent and we thoroughly enjoyed our holiday.
- Cycling the Cape & Winelands
Cycling in the Western Cape offers climbing (& descending) mountain passes, riding through semi-arid deserts and along windy coastal roads. Both the distances and level of difficulty vary day-to-day. Regardless each day starts early. Each day included some time in the van. There were times when cyclists and bikes were transferred in the truck when the roadway and shoulder looked invitingly cyclable. There also several times when the transfer backtracked over the route ridden the previous day. The quality of the accommodations varied from modern, clean and efficient to quirky and - in one case - dangerous. There was no access to laundry during the 10 days. The food options varied from sandwich picnics at the side of the road to white tablecloths. There was always water; there were snacks of fruit and sweets at breaks in the cycling journeys.
What our customers ask about South Africa Luxury Tours & Trips
What's the best time of year for a luxury safari in South Africa?
South Africa's dry winter season from May to September provides excellent wildlife viewing conditions particularly in Kruger National Park. The animals gather around water sources making them easier to spot. The Cape region works well year-round. Summer months from December to February are ideal for Cape Town and Winelands visits while spring from September to November brings wildflower displays along the Garden Route. As one TourRadar traveler noted about their winter visit: "The animal interactions were even more exciting than anticipated."
What unique experiences are included in luxury South African tours?
High-end tours give you access to activities like private conservation talks at Karongwe Reserve and helicopter flights over De Hoop Nature Reserve for whale watching. You can join exclusive wine tastings in Franschhoek valley or eat dinner under the stars in the bush. Special guided tours of places like Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens are also common. A TourRadar traveler shared: "The cheetah conservation talk was a definite highlight along with the walk in Soweto."
What are the best locations for luxury safaris in South Africa?
The top safari spots include Kruger National Park Sanbona Wildlife Reserve and Addo Elephant National Park. At Kruger's Lukimbi Safari Lodge guests have private access to 15000 hectares of land. Sanbona offers three upscale lodges across its 58000-hectare wilderness area. These places let you see the Big Five on private game drives and stay in luxury rooms with decks that look out over waterholes where animals gather.
How much should I budget per day for a luxury tour in South Africa?
Daily costs for luxury tours range from $300 to $1200 based on exclusivity and what's included. The high-end South Africa Deluxe tour averages $1170 per day covering 5-star lodges private guides and special experiences. More moderate options like National Geographic Journeys cost between $470-500 daily while still providing quality accommodations and service.

Lodging options range from upscale lodges at Karongwe Private Game Reserve to boutique hotels and luxury tented camps. In Cape Town you might stay at The Portswood Hotel while safari portions include tented suites at places like Botlierskop Private Game Reserve with wooden decks overlooking wildlife areas.
