Reviews of Balkans Family Tours
- Balkan Delight
A wonderful trip. The countries were beautiful, the people lovely and I loved the history. It was especially good since we had such a wonderful tour guide, Kassie. She was attentive, very organized, made everyone feel comfortable and was always alert to anyone's needs. Also, our bus driver, Bozo, was an excellent driver and always very helpful. A great tour guide and bus driver always makes a trip more wonderful.

This was a small tour. Our party was a family from India with two young children, a young woman from Hong Kong, and the two of us. We were an odd mix. Marko, our tour guide, was excellent. He is very knowledgeable about history and very good at accommodating all of us.
What our customers ask about Balkans Family Tours
What are the best family-friendly activities and attractions in the Balkans?
The Balkans region delivers a mix of natural wonders and hands-on experiences that keep children engaged. Families can walk the wooden pathways of Plitvice Lakes National Park where waterfalls cascade into turquoise pools or take kayaking trips in Montenegro's Bay of Kotor. The Adriatic coast near Hotel Kompas Dubrovnik provides beach activities suitable for all ages. Cultural activities include copper crafting sessions in Mostar where children learn traditional metalworking and rides on the electric train through Slovenia's Postojna Cave system. A TourRadar traveler noted: "The lakes were absolutely breathtaking and my kids loved walking across the wooden bridges over the waterfalls."
What's the best time of year for families to visit the Balkans?
Late spring (May-June) and early fall (September) offer the most pleasant conditions for family travel with moderate temperatures and fewer tourists. The summer months bring higher temperatures and larger crowds particularly in popular destinations like Dubrovnik and Split. Inland cities such as Sarajevo and Belgrade experience cold winters. A TourRadar review suggested: "I recommend the key time to visit these countries (May or early June) for the most comfortable experience with children."
What type of accommodation can families expect in the Balkans?
The region's accommodation options center on 3-4 star hotels that cater to families. The Arbanaski Han Hotel in Bulgaria provides traditional family rooms while coastal properties such as Hotel Lapad in Dubrovnik feature modern family suites. Swimming pools and child-friendly facilities are common at most properties. A TourRadar traveler mentioned "The accommodations were excellent as well as the breakfast and dinners that were included" highlighting the family-oriented services.
What educational experiences are available for children in the Balkans?
Children can connect with history throughout the region. Split's Diocletian's Palace offers touchable Roman history while Dubrovnik's city walls bring medieval times to life. The Rila Monastery in Bulgaria shows religious heritage in action and Prizren's craft workshops in Kosovo let children try traditional skills firsthand. As one TourRadar family noted: "Our kids learned so much about history and different cultures - the local guides made everything interesting and engaging for them."
How family-friendly is the local transportation and infrastructure?
Transportation across the Balkans meets modern family needs. Air-conditioned coaches connect major cities and reliable ferries serve the islands. The historic centers of Dubrovnik Split and Ljubljana accommodate strollers easily. Tour operators typically use vehicles with current safety features and plan regular stops. A TourRadar review noted: "The transfers were very smooth and our driver was always mindful of traveling with children making regular comfort stops."
How safe is the Balkans for family travel?
Families find a secure travel environment in the Balkans where crime rates stay low and locals welcome visitors warmly. Tourist centers like Dubrovnik Split and Sofia maintain good medical facilities and family-focused infrastructure. Tour companies such as Europamundo and Choose Balkans specialize in family group safety. According to a TourRadar review: "We felt completely safe throughout our journey and the locals were incredibly kind and helpful with our children."
