How it all started. My wife visited with friends Bali in 2017 and when she came back she was super excited and told me we should go back as a couple. So in 2023 we decided to do so. Browsing the internet we found mybaliroadtrip.com. So we asked them to book our dream trip to Bali. This is what we got. Arriving in Bali our private driver took us to our hotel in Ubud. Fantastisch hidden on the outscirds but with an infinity pool looking over the rice fields. After 3 days of settling down the main trip started. With our private driver. Off to Munduk. On our tour we stopped at several highlights.This is what we did during the whole trip. Amazing hotel in the hills. Spent 2 nights in the hotel also to relax. Then off to Lovina for 2 nights. Hotel at the black sand beach. Again perfect. Off for 2 nights to Kintamani. Up in the hills but a fabulous location. On to Sideman. 2 nights quiet resort just outside the centre of Sideman Then to Amed. Fantastic journey and hotel again for 2 nights. Next stop Candidasa. Again superb. Then our private driver took us to Sanur to a hotel we booked ourselves on the recommendations of mybaliroadtrip.com where we spent another 5 days pure relaxing. When is the best time to go diving?
It really depends on where you want to dive. You can dive the Great Barrier Reef all year, but the water is clearest from June to October with visibility reaching 65-100 feet. For the Red Sea, plan your trip between March and May or September to November when the water is a comfortable 75-80°F. If you're heading to the Galapagos, December through May brings calmer, warmer waters. Many travelers we've talked to suggest visiting during shoulder season when you'll find good conditions with fewer people in the water.
Which popular diving spots do these tours visit?
You'll get to explore some amazing dive sites like Thailand's Koh Tao with its colorful coral reefs, the Great Barrier Reef where you can see turtles and reef sharks, and Tofo Beach in Mozambique where divers often see turtles and reef sharks. What marine life will I see while diving?
Get ready to meet some amazing underwater residents. On the Great Barrier Reef, you'll swim with giant turtles, stingrays, and over 1,500 different kinds of fish among bright coral formations. Red Sea dives often include close-up views of reef fish, moray eels and sometimes dolphins. At North Seymour in the Galapagos, divers regularly see manta rays, devil rays, eagle rays, sea turtles and octopi at depths of about 52-59 feet. As one happy diver told us, "The diversity of marine life was absolutely incredible - we saw something new on every dive."
What type of places will I stay in during my diving tour?
Your accommodation options range from fancy resorts to specially equipped dive boats. In Egypt, you might stay at places like the 5-star Desert Rose Resort in Hurghada where everything's included. For Great Barrier Reef trips, you'll spend a couple nights on a dive boat with cabin-style rooms. Bali offers spots like the Mulia Resort in Nusa Dua. How many dives are usually included in a tour package?
Most tours pack in plenty of diving time. Take the Thai Intro + Dive tour - you get 6 dives over 4 days, starting in shallow water before going deeper to about 60 feet. If you're heading to Mozambique, the Dive Safari includes two dives every day at Tofo's reefs. Your package typically covers refresher lessons, all the gear you need, and dives in both morning and afternoon with qualified instructors right there with you.
What are the best diving locations these tours offer?
Egypt's Red Sea is a favorite - at spots like Hurghada you can see clearly for 30-40 meters underwater through crystal water. The Galapagos Islands' Gordon Rocks is where you might spot hammerhead sharks and the rare Oceanic Sunfish. Lots of divers tell us they love Lovina in Bali, where you can often see dolphins and healthy coral reefs.
