What people love about Munich Tours
- Munich Oktoberfest - Hotel & Hostel Packages
Did Oktoberfest with Euroadventures (second weekend of the festival at the end of September 2017 - though in this review it only gave me the option of "Oktoberfest 2018"). What an experience! Honestly one of the most fun weekends of my life. Munich and the festival can't be put into words. Everything was great about the trip from the accommodations (nice, clean, modern hostel with really easy access to Oktoberfest only about 10 min. to get there), fun offered tours like a beer walking tour of the old town (we had included beer during the tour), to visiting the Dachau concentration camp. Beyond that our trip leaders took us to the Oktoberfest, showed us the best tents, what to eat, what the drinking songs were and even drank a bit with us. We had plenty of free time to enjoy Oktoberfest but also had options to see things in Munich when we wanted. Really a great trip!
- Munich, Austrian Alps, Dolomites in a Porsche: Pre-set sat-nav guided
Absolute must. Everything from beginning to end was top notch. Stephan's availability and commitment to making this an extraordinary experience was much appreciated. With very short notice he was able to put together a tailored trip to meet all of our requirements.

What our customers ask about Munich Tours & Trips
What are the best neighborhoods to explore in Munich beyond the tourist center?
Moving beyond Marienplatz reveals Munich's authentic character through distinct neighborhoods. The Schwabing district showcases Art Nouveau buildings and local coffee culture while Haidhausen's French Quarter draws visitors with its peaceful squares and local dining spots. For nightlife and shopping head to Glockenbachviertel where local boutiques line the streets. The Maritim Hotel Munich serves as a practical base for exploring these areas. Art enthusiasts gravitate to Maxvorstadt the museum quarter where institutions like the Pinakothek der Moderne display world-class collections.
What are some recommended day trips from Munich?
Bavaria's highlights sit within easy reach of Munich. The iconic Neuschwanstein Castle takes 2 hours by train while the medieval city of Nuremberg with its WWII historical sites is just an hour away. Regular trains run to Salzburg Austria where visitors can explore Mozart's birthplace against an Alpine backdrop. From a base at the Kolberbräu hotel in Bad Tölz travelers can reach Lake Starnberg or visit Garmisch-Partenkirchen nestled at the foot of Germany's highest peak the Zugspitze.
What are some unique local festivals in Munich besides Oktoberfest?
Munich's festival calendar extends far beyond Oktoberfest. March brings Starkbierfest where historic venues like Paulaner am Nockherberg serve traditional strong beers. The Tollwood Festival fills Olympiapark with cultural events in summer and winter. Local families favor Frühlingsfest in spring which offers a more relaxed atmosphere than its autumn counterpart. June welcomes the Munich Film Festival while December transforms Marienplatz into the traditional Christkindlmarkt where local crafts and seasonal treats take center stage.
What are the must-try traditional Bavarian dishes in Munich?
Munich's traditional cuisine centers on hearty Bavarian specialties. Start your day with Weisswurst the classic white sausage served at Viktualienmarkt. Beer halls like the historic Hofbräuhaus specialize in Schweinshaxe a crispy pork knuckle that's a local favorite. The Munich Marriott Hotel City West's restaurant serves regional dishes including Leberkäse and fresh pretzels paired with Obatzda a savory cheese spread. Local kitchens near Marienplatz offer homestyle spätzle and warm apple strudel.
What is the best time of year to visit Munich for comfortable sightseeing?
Munich shines from April through October when mild temperatures create ideal conditions for exploring. Spring temperatures hover around 65°F/18°C as the English Garden bursts into bloom. September and October bring comfortable weather and fewer crowds at attractions like Marienplatz and Nymphenburg Palace. The Panorama Hotel Prague positions visitors well for exploring during these peak months when outdoor cafes and beer gardens welcome guests well into the evening.
How accessible is Munich's public transportation system for tourists?
Munich's comprehensive transit network makes getting around straightforward. The MVV system combines U-Bahn subway lines S-Bahn commuter trains trams and buses connecting major sites from the Residenz Palace to the English Garden. Day passes cost about USD 8 with multi-day options available. Most accommodations including the Rainers Hotel Vienna sit near transit stops making it simple to reach any part of the city.
What are some must-visit historical sites in Munich?
Munich's history comes alive through its architectural landmarks. The New Town Hall dominates Marienplatz with its neo-Gothic design and famous Glockenspiel show. The Residenz spans 400 rooms telling Bavaria's royal story through the centuries. St. Peter's Church provides city views from its tower while the twin domes of Frauenkirche define Munich's skyline.
