- Day 1
Split to Makarska
Arrive at Split harbor before 1 PM for a 13:00 departure. Book a morning flight since airport transfers can take 45-60 minutes. You'll sail south for 4 hours to Makarska with a swimming break in a secluded cove. Remember to bring reef-safe sunscreen and water shoes for the rocky beaches. In the evening walk along Makarska's 2km seafront promenade. The stretch from the main square to the lighthouse looks beautiful at sunset. Most bars near the harbor start getting busy after 9 PM.
- Day 2
Makarska to Mljet Island
Leave Makarska at 7 AM for a 3-4 hour journey to Mljet Island. Stop for a swim at Pelješac peninsula on the way. Once at Mljet National Park you can rent bikes for about $15 to ride around the saltwater lakes. The 9km loop takes 2-3 hours if you include stops. Bring cash for the park entrance fee of around $25. Want great photos? Take the small boat to St. Mary's Island in the afternoon when most tourists have left. Your ship will dock overnight in either Polača or Pomena where you can find excellent local seafood restaurants just a short walk away.
- Day 3
Mljet to Dubrovnik
Start your final day with breakfast during the 2-3 hour sail to Dubrovnik. You'll need to check out of your cabin by 2 PM. The included city tour requires good walking shoes since Dubrovnik's limestone streets can be slippery. Consider taking the cable car up Srđ Mountain ($25) before sunset for excellent views. Walking the entire city wall takes about 2 hours. Start at Pile Gate to avoid the biggest crowds. Bring plenty of water for the wall walk since refill stations are limited, especially important during summer.
3 Day Dubrovnik Itinerary, incl. Old Town and Lokrum Island
Take in Dalmatia over three thoughtfully planned days: settle in with hotel check-in on arrival, relax with optional tours or beach time on your second day, and enjoy a leisurely morning before your private airport transfer on departure.
- Day 1
Arrival and Old Town First Look
Plan to arrive in the afternoon to avoid morning traffic on the 30-minute airport transfer. After settling in your hotel, take an evening walk through the Old Town when it's cooler and less crowded. Enter through Pile Gate and walk along the Stradun to get your bearings. A word of caution about the limestone streets: they can get slippery, so pack shoes with good traction.
- Day 2
UNESCO Old Town and City Walls
Get an early start and arrive at the City Walls before 8:30 AM. You'll need about 2 hours to complete the 2km circuit. Pack water and sunscreen since shade is limited. For the best photos, stop at Minčeta Tower to capture the sea of terracotta roofs and the southern walls for views of Lokrum Island. Grab lunch in the Old Town at Restaurant 360 if you're celebrating something special, or try Lady Pi-Pi for authentic local grills. In the afternoon, take the quick 10-minute ferry to Lokrum Island for swimming and exploring the botanical gardens. Check the ferry schedule at the ticket booth since the last return varies by season.
- Day 3
Morning Views and Departure
If your flight timing works out, start your day with a cable car ride up Mount Srđ. It opens at 9 AM and offers stunning morning views of the Old Town and Elaphiti Islands. The whole experience takes about an hour. Leave plenty of time to reach the airport. It's best to depart 3 hours before your flight since summer traffic can be heavy on the coastal road.
- Day 1
Split to Makarska
Your Croatia coastal journey begins in Split. The ship leaves at 1 PM from the harbor, so plan to arrive by 12:30 PM for a smooth check-in. The sail to Makarska takes 3-4 hours along the Dalmatian coast. Bring a light jacket since sea breezes can be cool, even in summer. Once in Makarska, take a pleasant 20-minute walk along the waterfront promenade to the lighthouse. In the evening, head to the main square to see the church of St. Mark lit up at night - it's a great spot for photos.
- Day 2
Makarska to Mljet Island
The ship departs early at 7 AM for Mljet Island. You'll stop for a swim at Pelješac peninsula - pack water shoes since the beaches are pebbly. After the 4-hour sail to Mljet, you can rent a bike for about $15 to explore Mljet National Park's two saltwater lakes. The park entrance fee is $35. A good tip is to visit St. Mary's Island monastery in late afternoon when the crowds thin out. You'll spend the night docked in either Polača or Pomena, small ports right by the park.
- Day 3
Mljet to Dubrovnik
The final leg takes 2-3 hours to reach Dubrovnik, with arrival around noon. You'll need to leave your cabin by 2 PM. For the city tour, wear good walking shoes since Dubrovnik's limestone streets can be slippery. Take the cable car up Srđ Mountain for $25 round trip - it offers incredible views of the old town, especially before sunset. The city walls walk takes about 2 hours. Start at Pile Gate and bring plenty of water, as summer temperatures often hit 95°F (35°C).
