What our customers ask about Romantic Big Sur Trips & Honeymoon Packages
What's the best season for couples to visit Big Sur?
Fall is perfect for a Big Sur trip - especially September through November when temperatures are comfortable at 65-75°F (18-24°C) and the fog clears up. If you go in spring (April-May), you'll get to see wildflowers blooming and enjoy nice 70°F (21°C) hiking weather. Many travelers tell us October is their favorite time, with fewer tourists and beautiful coastal weather. Winter has its romantic moments but watch out for Highway 1 closures from November to March. Summer can get pretty crowded and foggy, so it's not ideal if you want a more intimate experience.
What are the most romantic spots along Big Sur for couples?
You'll find plenty of cozy spots to enjoy together along the Big Sur coast. The famous Bixby Bridge lookout is a must-see, and Pfeiffer Beach feels like your own private paradise. If you stay at the SpringHill Suites in Monterey, you'll wake up to amazing ocean views right from your room. Take a drive along the 17-Mile Drive through Pebble Beach and Carmel - it's beautiful at sunset. The little Danish town of Solvang is perfect for wine tasting together. One couple told us their favorite memories were just pulling over at different spots along Route 1 to take in the views together.
Which tour routes are most recommended for couples?
The most romantic way to see Big Sur is to combine the coastal drive on Highway 1 with some time in wine country. Start in San Francisco, then make your way through Monterey and Carmel before heading down the Big Sur coast to Santa Barbara and Solvang. You'll get to experience both the incredible coastline and some cozy wine towns. Plan to stop at Pfeiffer Beach, Bixby Bridge, and some small wineries in Carmel Valley. For overnight stays, couples love the Hyatt Regency Monterey and Hotel Corque in Solvang.
What are the dining options for couples in Big Sur?
You'll find lots of romantic places to eat, from restaurants perched on cliffs to intimate wine country spots. Carmel's Ocean Avenue has some really nice fine dining options, and over in Monterey, you can get fresh seafood with great views of the bay. Couples often tell us their favorite meals were watching the sunset from restaurants in Carmel and Monterey. If you stay at Hotel Corque in Solvang or visit the wine country restaurants nearby, you can try local California dishes paired with regional wines in a really intimate setting.
What are the most photogenic spots for couples in Big Sur?
You'll never run out of beautiful photo spots in Big Sur. Bixby Bridge and McWay Falls are classic choices for couple shots. The 17-Mile Drive through Pebble Beach is full of gorgeous coastal backdrops, and Pfeiffer Beach is special with its purple sand and rock formations - especially at sunset. Other couples recommend getting photos near Point Lobos and at Carmel Beach. If you visit Solvang, the Danish buildings make for cute photos, and Hearst Castle has beautiful gardens that are perfect for pictures together.
What type of accommodations are recommended for couples in Big Sur?
Whether you prefer luxury resorts by the ocean or cozy boutique hotels, you'll find something that fits your style. Hotel Corque in Solvang gives you that intimate wine country feel, while the Hyatt Regency Monterey offers nice rooms overlooking the golf course. In San Francisco, couples love the city views from the Marriott Marquis. One traveler told us they really enjoyed their stays in San Francisco, Solvang, and Monterey - all the hotels had a romantic feel and were very comfortable.
What are some unique couple's activities available in Big Sur?
There are so many special things you can do together in Big Sur. Pack a picnic for Pfeiffer Beach, go sailing at sunset in Monterey Bay, or spend an afternoon wine tasting in Carmel Valley. The 17-Mile Drive has lots of beautiful spots to stop for walks together. One couple mentioned that just driving along the coast was incredibly romantic, with plenty of places to pull over and enjoy the view. You can also book couples massages at coastal resorts, have dinner at restaurants overlooking the ocean, or take evening walks on Carmel Beach.
