What people love about touring Sikkim solo
- North East India Tour
Moment we entered Kalimpong, the natural beauty took over. The guide allowed us time to explore without rushing. The driver was patient with photo stops. Hotel views in Pelling and Lachung were unforgettable. Tsomgo Lake was frozen and magical. Loved how cultural elements like monasteries were woven in. It felt like more than a vacation it was grounding.
- 11 Days Exotic North East India Tour Package(ALL INCLUSIVE)
Overall in India we find that and have opportunity to go on an 11-day tour of North East India and it was truly an unforgettable experience. The tour package was well-organized and covered all the major destinations in the region, giving us a comprehensive overview of the culture, history, and natural beauty of this lesser-explored part of India. The tour started in Guwahati, the gateway to North East India, where we were greeted by our friendly and knowledgeable tour guide. From there, we traveled to Shillong, the capital of Meghalaya, known as the 'Scotland of the East' for its stunning landscapes and pleasant climate. We visited the famous Umiam Lake, also known as Barapani Lake, and were mesmerized by its crystal clear water and surrounding hills. Next, we headed to Cherrapunjee, one of the wettest places on earth, where we got to witness the spectacular Seven Sisters Waterfall and the living root bridges, a unique and fascinating man-made wonder. The tour also took us to Mawlynnong, known as the cleanest village in Asia, and we were amazed by its pristine surroundings and the warm hospitality of the locals. We then continued our journey to Kaziranga National Park, home to the famous one-horned rhinoceros. We were lucky enough to spot these magnificent creatures during our safari in the park. The tour also included a visit to Majuli Island, the world's largest river island, where we got to experience the unique Assamese culture and enjoy a traditional dance performance. The highlight of the tour was our visit to Tawang, located in the state of Arunachal Pradesh, which is home to the second-largest Buddhist monastery in the world. The monastery was a sight to behold, and we were fortunate to witness the daily rituals and prayers of the monks. The tour also took us to the picturesque Sela Pass, which offered breathtaking views of the Himalayan mountains. Throughout the tour, we were impressed by the beauty and diversity of North East India. The accommodations provided were comfortable and the food was delicious, giving us a taste of the local cuisine. Our tour guide was highly knowledgeable and shared interesting insights about the places we visited. Overall, I would highly recommend this 11-day tour package to anyone looking to explore the exotic North East region of India. It was a perfect blend of nature, culture, and adventure, and I returned home with a deeper appreciation for this lesser-known part of our country.
- Wonderful Northeast
A real wonderful trip to Sikkim culture. The guide took us to lesser-known monasteries and local eateries. Learned so much. Driver was calm and helpful throughout. The Gangtok hotel had stunning morning views. Pelling was incredibly quiet and perfect for reflection. Darjeeling felt lively and fun to end the trip. Would travel this route again with the same team.
What our customers ask about Sikkim Tours for Solo Travelers
What's the best time of year for solo travelers to visit Sikkim?
Solo travelers will find optimal conditions in Sikkim from October to December. During these months you can expect clear skies for mountain views and pleasant temperatures around 60-70°F. The Yumthang Valley comes alive in spring (March-May) with red and pink rhododendrons dotting the landscape. Keep in mind that higher elevations like Tsomgo Lake at 12,400 feet can be quite cold in winter. A recent visitor noted: "October was perfect - the weather was clear for monastery visits and Tiger Hill sunrise plus there were plenty of other travelers to connect with at places like the Dekeling Resort in Darjeeling."
What are the typical group sizes for guided tours in Sikkim?
Most guided tours in Sikkim keep numbers between 8 and 12 participants creating a balanced mix of privacy and social interaction. Places like Rumtek and Pemayangtse monasteries work well with these smaller groups allowing everyone to hear the guide clearly. Hotels such as Summit Hermon in Darjeeling and Lemon Tree in Gangtok provide common areas where tour members naturally gather. One traveler reports: "The small group size made it easy to make friends and share amazing experiences like watching the sunrise over Kanchenjunga peak together."
How physically demanding are Sikkim guided tours for solo travelers?
The physical requirements on most Sikkim tours are moderate. Expect daily walking of 2-3 hours at key sites such as Rumtek Monastery and local tea estates. Vehicles transport groups to higher locations including Tiger Hill at 8364 feet and Tsomgo Lake at 12400 feet. A recent guest shared: "Even as a solo traveler in my 50s I found the pace manageable with plenty of breaks at scenic spots and comfortable stays at hotels like the Norbughang Resort in Pelling."
What's the typical accommodation setup for solo travelers on Sikkim tours?
Private rooms on Sikkim tours usually come with a single supplement of 20-30% above the base price at properties like The Elgin Norkhill in Gangtok and Singtom Tea Estate Resort. Tour operators often help match solo travelers who want to share rooms and avoid the extra cost. One traveler explains: "I was worried about the single supplement but the tour company matched me with another solo female traveler and we got along great throughout the 7-day journey through Sikkim."
What kind of cultural experiences do solo travelers share on Sikkim tours?
Group activities range from early morning monastery visits to evenings in traditional Lepcha villages. The shared schedule includes sunrise viewing at Tiger Hill tea plantation tours and craft demonstrations at Gangtok's Directorate of Handicrafts & Handloom. A recent participant reflected: "Exploring the Pemayangtse Monastery with our knowledgeable guide and fellow travelers made the experience so much more meaningful than doing it alone."
How easy is it to meet other travelers during meals on Sikkim tours?
Group dining forms a central part of the Sikkim tour experience. Hotels like Mayfair Hill Resort in Darjeeling set up shared tables that encourage conversation. A typical 10-day tour includes 7-11 group dinners at carefully selected local restaurants. One traveler notes: "The group dinners at our hotel in Gangtok were highlights - sharing stories over momos and local cuisine really brought everyone together."
