What people love about Southern France Tours for Seniors
- The exceptional region of Bordeaux (port-to-port cruise)
I was warned that Croisi was a “budget” cruise company, but I was pleasantly surprised by what they delivered. The cabins were well appointed with luggage storage under bed. Cabins were well attended to daily. I have dietary requirements which were met, providing delicious and appealing meals at every sitting. Coffee on board was excellent! The excursions were interesting and, even though we were a small group of 6 English speakers, we were well-catered for at all times. Well done Croisi and thank you.
What our customers ask about Southern France Tours for Seniors
What's the best time of year for seniors to visit Southern France?
Spring (April-May) and fall (September-October) provide the most comfortable conditions for exploring Southern France. During these months temperatures hover between 65-75°F and tourist sites are less crowded. Cities like Arles and Avignon in Provence are particularly pleasant for walking tours and outdoor activities. It's best to avoid summer when inland regions such as the Rhône Valley can get uncomfortably hot. As one TourRadar traveler noted: "We went in September and the weather was perfect for exploring - not too hot or cold."
What dining arrangements are available for seniors with dietary restrictions?
Tour companies make dining accommodations straightforward and accessible. AmaWaterways and Uniworld serve vegetarian low-sodium and diabetic-friendly meals. River cruises include multiple restaurant options flexible dining times and room service. Even in traditional food cities like Lyon restaurants can adjust their menus with advance notice. A TourRadar traveler shared: "The chef was very accommodating with my dietary restrictions and still provided delicious French cuisine."
What type of transportation is used between destinations in Southern France?
Modern coaches with easy-access steps and wide seats handle land travel while river ships like the AmaCello and S.S. Catherine serve as floating hotels on the Rhône and Saône rivers. Trains connect longer routes such as Paris to Lyon. The vehicles prioritize comfort and accessibility. According to a TourRadar traveler: "The coaches were very comfortable with good leg room and frequent stops perfect for seniors."
How much walking is typically involved on Southern France tours for seniors?
Daily walks average 1-2 miles on level ground through cities like Arles and Avignon. Many tours including river cruises offer "gentle walkers" groups that set an easier pace. Companies like Trafalgar provide alternatives such as shuttle services or free time for those who prefer less walking. As one traveler explained: "They always had options for those who wanted to take it easier - you could do as much or as little walking as you liked."
