13 Day Jordan Itinerary, incl. Petra and Wadi Rum
The 13-day route encompasses 11 major destinations across Jordan, from Amman to Aqaba. Guests enjoy 10 nights in hotels, 1 night camping in Wadi Rum, and 1 night in a local guesthouse. Package includes 12 breakfasts, 2 dinners, and visits to 3 UNESCO World Heritage sites.
- Days 1-3
Amman & Northern Jordan
Start your journey in Amman and use it as a hub for exploring northern Jordan. Visit Jerash's Greco-Roman ruins early, before 9 AM to avoid crowds and heat. Take the 3-hour drive to Um Qais. You'll get the best views of the Jordan Valley and Sea of Galilee if you sit on the right side. When you join the cooking class at Beit Khairat Souf, bring a light jacket since evenings in the north can get cool.
- Days 4-6
Petra Region
It's a 3-hour drive from Amman to Petra on the Desert Highway. Get to Petra first thing in the morning. The Siq will still be in shadow, giving you perfect lighting for photos and cooler temperatures for walking. You'll need good hiking shoes with ankle support for the 800+ steps to the Monastery. Skip the animal rides if you can. Walking is better for the animals and gives you more chances to take photos.
- Days 7-8
Wadi Rum Desert
From Petra's red cliffs to Wadi Rum's sandstone formations is about a 2-hour journey. Take the camel trek at dawn when the desert colors are most beautiful. The desert gets surprisingly cold at night, so pack something warm. You can stay in traditional Bedouin camps, or upgrade to "Martian domes" that let you stargaze through clear roof panels.
- Days 9-10
Aqaba & Dana
Spend a day snorkeling Aqaba's coral reefs. They're right off the public beach, and you can rent gear nearby. The drive to Dana Nature Reserve is scenic, winding through mountains. One traveler shared: "The 2-hour hike through Dana offered incredible valley views. The local guide pointed out medicinal plants still used by villagers today."
- Days 11-13
Dead Sea & Mount Nebo
Take your time floating in the Dead Sea, but don't stay in too long as the minerals can irritate your skin. Skip shaving for 24 hours before going in. Drive an hour to Mount Nebo. Visit in late afternoon for the best views of the Promised Land. Stop in Madaba to see the mosaic map before heading back to Amman, about 45 minutes away.
14 Days in Jordan, incl. Amman and Petra
A 14-day tour of Jordan takes you to 17 major sites from Amman's Citadel to Ma'in Hot Springs. The itinerary features a 2.5-hour Petra tour, 4-hour Wadi Rum excursion, and visits to three Umayyad desert castles, covering 1,200km with private transportation.
- Days 1-3
Amman & Northern Jordan
Land in Amman where your guide will help with visa processing at the airport. Your first day takes you through Downtown Amman to see the citadel and Roman theater. One traveler shared: "The local markets in Downtown were incredible for sampling traditional foods - try the kunafa sweets from Habibah, they're unbeatable." Day 2 brings a trip to Jerash for a 1.5 hour tour of the Roman ruins, followed by Ajloun Castle. Go early to avoid midday heat. Continue to Um Qais to see stunning views of the Sea of Galilee. While the sites have good signage, a guide adds valuable historical context. Spend day 3 exploring the Eastern Desert Castles. Visit Qasr Amra to see its famous frescoes, then Qasr Kharana and Azraq Castle, Lawrence of Arabia's former headquarters. Visit Azraq Wetlands Reserve in early morning when bird activity peaks.
- Days 4-5
Dana & Feynan
Travel south on the King's Highway to Dana Biosphere Reserve. Take the 2-hour sunset hike for beautiful valley views. A recent visitor noted: "The Dana sunset hike was magical - bring layers as it gets chilly quickly after sundown." The next day features the challenging Wadi Ghweir trail to Feynan. This 7-8 hour hike needs good fitness and plenty of water. Note that rain closes the trail due to flash flood risks.
- Days 6-8
Petra Region
- Days 9-10
Wadi Rum & Aqaba
- Days 11-12
Dead Sea & Ma'in
- Days 13-14
Final Days in Amman
12 Days in Jordan, incl. Petra and Wadi Rum
A 12-day expedition spans 12 Jordanian cities, from Amman's ancient Citadel to Mount Nebo's biblical views. Highlights include 3 nights in Petra exploring the Treasury and Monastery, overnight in Wadi Rum's Bedouin camp, and stays at unique RSCN properties like Dana Guesthouse and Mujib Chalets.
- Days 1-2
Amman
- Days 3-4
Northern Jordan
Visit As Salt, a UNESCO Heritage site known for Ottoman architecture and religious harmony. Next, see the Roman ruins of Pella before reaching Umm Qais where you can share lunch with a local family. Visit Jerash, Jordan's most impressive Roman site at 8am to avoid crowds. Spend the night in unique cabins at Ajloun Forest Reserve run by the Royal Society for Conservation of Nature.
- Days 5-6
Desert Castles & Dead Sea
Take the eastern desert "castle route" to see Qasr Amra's remarkable frescoes and Qasr Kharana. As one traveler shared: "The Desert Castles were a highlight - each one tells a different story of Jordan's rich history." End your day at the peaceful Mujib Chalets by the Dead Sea away from busy resorts.
- Days 7-9
Petra
Spend three full days in the ancient Nabataean city of Petra. Walk through the narrow Siq canyon to reach the Treasury. On your second day take the 750-step climb to the Monastery. Start by 7am to avoid heat and crowds. Ask your hotel about booking dinner with a local family (about $25) for authentic food and culture.
- Day 10
Wadi Rum
- Days 11-12
Historical Sites & Mount Nebo
