27 Days in Indochina, incl. Hanoi and Siem Reap
A 27-day grand tour through Indochina unfolds from Hanoi to Luang Prabang. Luxuriate aboard Bhaya Soul in Halong Bay and Scenic Spirit on the Mekong, while visiting ancient temples and participating in private temple dinners and traditional ceremonies across three countries.

- Days 1-2
Hanoi
Begin in Vietnam's capital. Visit the Temple of Literature before 9am to beat the tour buses. Spend your afternoon exploring the Old Quarter when the narrow streets fill with local life. "The egg coffee at Cafe Giang was unforgettable - thick, sweet and uniquely Vietnamese. Go early around 3pm to avoid the evening crowds."

- Days 3-5
Halong Bay
The drive to Halong Bay takes 4 hours. Leave Hanoi by 8am to avoid traffic. Spend 2 nights on a luxury junk boat surrounded by limestone karsts. Early morning offers the best photos when mist wraps around the islands. You can kayak through caves and visit floating villages in the quieter Bai Tu Long Bay area. Bring motion sickness tablets for choppy waters between islands.

- Days 6-8
Hoi An
Fly to Hoi An but plan extra time at Hanoi airport for potential delays. The Ancient Town looks its best at dusk as lanterns light up the streets. Book cooking classes early since morning market tours get full quickly. "Having clothes custom-made takes at least 2 fittings over 24 hours. Don't wait until your last day."

- Days 9-10
Hue
- Days 11-12
Ho Chi Minh City
- Days 13-19
Mekong River Cruise & Cambodia
Take a luxury river cruise down the Mekong. You'll travel from Vietnam through rural Cambodia stopping at floating markets and villages. Bring loose modest clothes for temple visits. Visit the Killing Fields in Phnom Penh early before the heat builds.
- Days 20-21
Siem Reap
Use this as your base for the Angkor temples. See Angkor Wat at sunrise (leave by 5am) then visit Ta Prohm and Bayon when crowds thin out. "Hire a tuk-tuk for the day rather than a car - the breeze helps with the heat and you can easily hop on/off between temples."
- Days 22-27
Laos
End your trip in Luang Prabang. Watch the alms-giving ceremony at dawn but stay respectful and keep your distance from monks. Visit Kuang Si Falls before tour buses arrive. Finish in Vientiane where you'll find local handicrafts at the night market for souvenirs.
25 Day Indochina Itinerary, incl. Ho Chi Minh City and Angkor Wat
This 25-day adventure spans three countries, showcasing iconic sites from Halong Bay to Angkor Wat. The route includes 4 domestic flights, overnight trains, and river cruises, with stays at selected properties like Vangsavath Hotel in Luang Prabang and Koupre Angkor Hotel in Siem Reap.

- Days 1-2
Ho Chi Minh City & Cu Chi Tunnels
Visit the Cu Chi tunnel network early before the crowds and heat set in. "The Cu Chi tunnels were fascinating, but go early - it gets extremely hot by midday." Spend your afternoons at the War Remnants Museum and exploring colonial architecture. Book dinner at Chill Sky Bar for great views over the city.

- Days 3-4
Mekong Delta
Take a boat through the Mekong's waterways to the floating markets. Stay in Can Tho to see the Cai Rang floating market at dawn. Boats start gathering around 5:30 AM. "The early morning Mekong boat ride was magical, with vendors tossing fruit between boats. Bring small bills for purchasing directly from boats."

- Days 5-6
Hoi An Ancient Town
Take a 1-hour flight to Hoi An via Danang. Walk through the UNESCO old town and get custom clothes made. You'll need 24-48 hours for fittings. A bike tour through rice paddies to My Son Sanctuary offers a great countryside experience. "The cycling was easy and flat, but bring sunscreen and water - the heat can be intense by 10 AM."

- Days 7-8
Hue Imperial City
- Days 9-10
Hanoi Exploration
- Days 11-12
Sapa Mountains
Take the overnight train from Hanoi (8-9 hours). Trek to Cat Cat village and Ta Van to see the rice terraces. "The Sapa trails can get very slippery after rain - bring proper hiking shoes and trek poles if possible."
- Days 13-14
Halong Bay Cruise
Return to Hanoi then transfer to Halong Bay (4 hours). Stay overnight on a traditional junk boat and go kayaking. Book an upper deck cabin for better views. Join the 6 AM tai chi if you're an early riser.
- Days 15-17
Luang Prabang, Laos
Fly to Luang Prabang. Watch the morning alms giving at 5:30 AM, visit temples and climb Mount Phousi for sunset. Take a cooking class and boat to Pak Ou Caves. "Dress conservatively for alms giving and maintain distance from monks - many tourists get too close for photos."
- Days 18-19
Vientiane & Vang Vieng
Head to Vientiane through Vang Vieng. Visit Buddha Park and That Luang stupa. Shop at the night market by the Mekong River. You can now take the train instead of the long road journey.
- Days 20-22
Siem Reap & Angkor Temples
Fly to Siem Reap. Spend two full days at the Angkor temples. Start at Angkor Wat before dawn (leave at 4:30 AM). Visit Ta Prohm during lunch when tour groups leave. "Get the 3-day pass and pace yourself - temple fatigue is real in the heat."
- Days 23-25
Phnom Penh
Drive to Phnom Penh (6 hours), stopping at floating villages. Visit the Royal Palace in the morning or late afternoon. Visit S-21 Museum and the Killing Fields early when fewer people are around.

- Explore Southeast Asia: A Multi-Country Tour 22-Day
Very efficient service Mr Do Thanh Tung collected us from the airport and took great trouble to give us an introduction to Hanoi and a detailed itinerary of what we would be doing. He likes to be called Tony and he speaks very good English.
