What people love about Albania Tours in May
- Albania in 14 Days, The Perfect Mix of Adventure and Relaxation
This trip covers a lot of ground, which is amazing but some days felt a bit long, especially the drive to Gjirokastër. Still the food, the culture and the warm locals made up for it.
- Albania: Local Food & UNESCO Heritage
What a trip! First, compared to most similar small group tours I've taken (where 4-5* Western hotels & buffets are not the norm), I was pleasantly surprised by the hotels. They were all small boutique hotels (except one) and very centrally located. Two hotels weren't the usual ones due to construction right in the center (very thoughtful of them to move us) and a massive car/bike rally that exceptionally had most hotels in one town fully booked WAY in advance. That was the only night where accommodations were just ok, but on par with what I'm used to from tour hotels. Our driver/organizer, Rando, was a character! He has a ton of energy and, because there were only 5 people, we made extra stops. His love of his country and sheer joy in sharing as many places as possible with us made for long, busy days, but you'll really feel like you know the Southern region of the country at the end! He also ordered us so many amazing local dishes for lunch (many veggie-friendly) that our group barely ate dinner, despite a good level of activity! Our local tours were great, with the Alpeta winery being a highlight! Good Albania really went out of their way to accommodate transportation at the end (one pair arranged an extra day to Greece! Another to the ferry from Durrës, etc). There was generally great communication before also. Nothing to do with the company, which was great; however, if you're not keen on being out in high heat (90+F or 33+C), come before June or after August! It was above the normal averages this week, so the hillside hikes (in limited shade) would have been more enjoyable in lower temperatures. Rando did shuffle the schedule a little so the main city tours and 2nd hike were earlier or later in the day, which helped to avoid peak heat and sun.
- 3-Day North Albania Tour: Kruja, Theth , Blue Eye , Shkoder , Shala River
didn’t expect to fall in love with Northern Albania, but this tour changed that. Every day felt like stepping into a different world — from medieval Kruja to the peaceful mountains of Theth. The hike to the Blue Eye was worth every step, and Shala River? Unreal. Crystal clear water and total silence… just nature at its best. What really made the difference was the local feel of the tour — small group, relaxed pace, and a guide who genuinely cared. It didn’t feel rushed or touristy, just real. Can’t recommend this enough if you’re craving something off the beaten path.
What our customers ask about Albania Tours in May 2026
What are the best places to visit in Albania during May?
Albania's varied landscape is especially accessible in May. The UNESCO cities of Berat and Gjirokaster offer clear views of their stone architecture and cultural sites. Along the coast Himara Dhermi and Ksamil beaches provide warm but not hot conditions for swimming and sunbathing. Natural attractions like Blue Eye Spring and Butrint National Park show their colors with spring vegetation. Coastal accommodations such as Hotel Colombo in Saranda or Hotel Partner in Vlore make good base camps. A TourRadar traveler shared: "The combination of historical sites and beach time in May was perfect - Butrint archaeological park was fascinating and not crowded."
What are the best outdoor activities to do in Albania during May?
May's moderate temperatures create ideal conditions for outdoor pursuits across Albania. Visitors can paddle board on Shkodra Lake trek through Theth National Park to the Blue Eye or bike the coastal roads from Vlora to Saranda. The waters of Osumi Canyon welcome rafters while the Karaburun Peninsula draws hikers to its seaside paths. Tour operators often package these activities together particularly the popular Theth to Valbona route which one TourRadar traveler called "absolutely breathtaking in May with all the spring wildflowers in bloom."
What are the best hiking trails to explore in Albania during May?
The spring hiking season brings Albania's mountain paths to life. The signature Valbona Pass route between Valbona and Theth National Parks showcases meadows filled with seasonal blooms. Near Theth the Blue Eye trail covers 6.2km round trip climbing 700m in elevation. Hotel Pisha Villa in Theth serves as a convenient launch point for day hikes. According to a TourRadar traveler "The walk between Valbona and Theti was amazing with stunning mountain views and meadows covered in spring flowers."
Which UNESCO sites are best to visit in Albania during May?
Spring temperatures make Albania's UNESCO heritage especially approachable. Key sites include the ancient ruins at Butrint Archaeological Park the historic Ottoman quarters of Berat and Gjirokastra and the remains of Apollonia. Hotel Republika in Berat puts visitors steps from the castle complex and Onufri Museum. TourRadar reviews confirm "The scenery in Albania is one of its greatest assets especially the UNESCO sites in springtime."
What is the weather like in Albania during May?
