The aurora borealis dances across the sky during two evening sessions at AuroraCentre near Whitehorse. Heated shelters and campfires keep visitors cozy while awaiting nature's light show. Daytime adventures include dog sledding, wildlife viewing at Yukon Wildlife Preserve, and relaxation at Eclipse Nordic Hot Springs.

What people love about Northern Lights Tours in Canada
- Yukon Winter Dream | Active Winter Adventure
Booking process was fine. Loved the convenience of the package, it made our time in Whitehorse much easier.
- Yukon Deluxe Winter Northern Lights Tour
Fantastic tour -The Inn on the Lake Staff were wonderful, friendly and organised. We were a little disappointed as our tour itinerary had written (in bold) "UPGRADE TO PRESIDENTIAL SUITE" and having looked online I was excited, when we checked in the Inn was fully booked and we were in another room. The accommodation was still lovely, but not what we expected. We were also asked for dietary preferences, however these were mostly forgotten or treated as an after-thought.
- Best Value Aurora Viewing | Wildlife & Hot Springs
We loved it. What a amazing experience to explore the Canadian north, seeing the northern lights with your own eyes, snowshoeing in fresh powder snow. The team at Arctic Range Adventure made us feel welcome right when they met us at the airport. We especially appreciated them taking photos of us at their viewing site, couldn't have done it the way they are able to do it. Next time we'll visit the Arctic we'll go with them again...
What our customers ask about Northern Lights Tours in Canada
When is the best time to see the Northern Lights in Canada?
The Northern Lights in Canada are most visible from late August to mid-April with December through March offering the clearest views. Cities like Whitehorse and Yellowknife serve as primary viewing bases where specialized locations such as the AuroraCentre position visitors away from urban light pollution. A TourRadar traveler noted: "We went the week of March 20-26 and had absolutely wonderful viewing opportunities each night. This is a wonderful way to give yourself the best chance of seeing the Northern Lights."
What are the most popular locations for viewing Northern Lights in Canada?
Whitehorse in Yukon Territory and Yellowknife in Northwest Territories stand out as key viewing destinations. Each area features dedicated facilities like the AuroraCentre and Aurora Basecamp. Marsh Lake located 35 minutes from Whitehorse offers clear lakefront views while Kluane National Park provides a more remote setting. A TourRadar traveler noted: "The locale for seeing the Aurora Borealis was very good with only an occasional interruption by a vehicle on the nearby highway."
What accommodation options are available on Northern Lights tours in Canada?
Visitors can choose from city-based hotels like the Best Western Gold Rush Inn in Whitehorse or opt for secluded wilderness lodges. Properties such as the lakefront lodge on Marsh Lake and Nova Inn in Yellowknife are strategically placed for aurora viewing. A TourRadar traveler shared: "The lodge offers front row seats to the Aurora with the option to view directly from your balcony or soak in the outdoor hot tub while watching the lights dance overhead."
What should I pack for a Northern Lights tour in Canada?
Pack layered clothing with thermal base layers insulated winter boots gloves and a winter hat. Photographers need a tripod and camera with manual settings for night shots. While tours at places like Whitehorse's AuroraCentre provide hot drinks pack extra warm layers. A TourRadar traveler advised: "Winter clothing rental is available but having your own base layers and accessories is recommended for maximum comfort in temperatures that can reach -35°C."
How many nights of aurora viewing are typically included in a tour?
Tours generally include 3-4 viewing nights to increase chances of seeing the aurora. The Best Value Aurora Viewing tour schedules three evenings at the AuroraCentre while the Aurora Magic & Mystery tour provides three nights at Aurora Basecamp. A TourRadar traveler shared: "We had three chances to view the lights and saw them on two nights - it was absolutely spectacular!"
