What people love about Bolivia And Chile Tours
- La Paz to Buenos Aires: Andes & the Atacama Desert
Excellent tour. Good choice of accommodations and an amazing Trip Leader Angeles!
- From Buenos Aires to La Paz via Uyuni (15 Nights)
I had a fantastic time travelling around with my daughter. She was spending 6 months in South America and this was a great opportunity to meet with her and spend some time seeing some great cities together. I went to Argentina and Bolivia and honestly preferred Argentina by a mile. The altitude sickness got to me (then my daughter) in Bolivia and it did spoil things slightly. Christian was brilliant at sorting everything out and whenever I had questions or problems he answered the what's apps straight away and fixed everything for us. There was an amount of self travel and organisation needed and was glad my daughter was used to this and could speak Spanish as I'd have struggled on my own. The places we stayed were basic, but cheap. Fine for my daughter, but I'm probably too used to luxuries! I would recommend Tour Raider and will probably use the company again in different parts of the world. Thanks so much. Justine (age 51) & Millie (age 19)

What our customers ask about Bolivia and Chile Tours & Trips
What are the best times to visit the Atacama Desert and Uyuni Salt Flats in Bolivia and Chile?
Plan your visit to the Atacama Desert between April and November when clear sunny days average 72°F creating optimal conditions for exploring sites like Moon Valley. The Uyuni Salt Flats are best experienced from March to November with reliably clear skies for photography. The December to February rainy season creates reflective mirror effects across the salt plains making for exceptional photo opportunities. The Hotel Campo Base in San Pedro de Atacama and Hotel de Sal Luna Salada in Uyuni serve as reliable bases during peak season. One TourRadar traveler noted: "The scenery was beautiful in October with perfect weather for capturing photos at both destinations."
What kind of accommodation can I expect in Bolivia and Chile?
Lodging options span from budget-friendly hostels to high-end hotels. San Pedro de Atacama features properties like the refined Noi Casa Atacama and the straightforward Hostel Campo Base. The Uyuni area offers distinctive stays at salt hotels such as Hotel Luna Salada constructed from blocks of salt. Most rooms come with private bathrooms while simpler shared facilities are common in remote spots like Quetena Chico. One TourRadar traveler mentioned: "The salt hotel was a unique highlight though accommodations in remote areas were more basic but clean and comfortable."
How should I prepare for the altitude in Bolivia and Chile's high-altitude regions?
The high elevations require careful planning especially in Bolivia where La Paz sits at 3,640m and Uyuni at 3,656m. Allow 2-3 days to adjust in cities like La Paz before venturing higher drink plenty of water and skip alcohol at first. Select hotels including Noi Casa Atacama provide oxygen support if needed. A TourRadar traveler advised: "Take it slow the first few days and listen to your body. The altitude adjustment is no joke especially when visiting the geysers at 4,300m."
What are the must-try local dishes in Bolivia and Chile?
Each country presents its own food culture. Chilean coastal towns like Valparaiso specialize in seafood while local favorites include empanadas and asado barbecue. San Pedro de Atacama restaurants Adobe and La Casona serve regional Chilean cuisine. Bolivia's highlights include quinoa dishes llama steaks and salteñas found in La Paz markets. A TourRadar traveler shared: "The food in small local restaurants in San Pedro was amazing especially the grilled lamb and the traditional Bolivian soups helped with altitude adjustment."
What photography opportunities are available in Bolivia and Chile?
The landscapes offer endless photo possibilities. Valle de la Luna in the Atacama provides sweeping desert vistas particularly at sunset. Uyuni Salt Flats are known for creative perspective shots with prime opportunities at Incahuasi Island during sunrise. Valparaiso's street art and architecture add urban photography options. A TourRadar traveler noted: "The guide at Uyuni knew all the best spots for perspective photos on the salt flats and the sunrise over Laguna Colorada was unforgettable." Bring protective gear for cameras against salt and dust.
What type of weather conditions should I prepare for in Bolivia and Chile?
Expect significant temperature shifts across regions. The Atacama Desert ranges from 75-85°F during day to 30-40°F at night. Uyuni temperatures can fall below freezing after dark. La Paz maintains steady cool temperatures between 50-60°F year-round. Pack versatile clothing layers including warm gear for overnight stays at salt flat properties like Luna Salada Hotel. One TourRadar traveler shared: "The temperature variations were extreme - from hot desert days to freezing nights in Uyuni so bringing proper layers was essential."
