Reviews of Small Group tours to Southern Spain
- Andalusia with Costa del Sol & Toledo
There was some confusion about the meeting place in Madrid, Tourradar called it the Courtyard by Marriott Princesa Hotel which doesn't exist there anymore. Its now the Princesa Plaza Hotel which it does state in the Julia Travel itinerary so they need to align themselves on this issue. Other than that the tour was a lot of fun and Marina, our tour guide, was so amazing and extremely patient but always had a smile on her face and Paco our driver was also amazing. If there was anything critical to say it was the meals at a couple of the stops left us disappointed, especially in Sevilla. We expected something far better from the beautiful Melia Hotel than pan fried dry chicken and potato patties the first night and regular pasta the second, hardly traditional Spanish cuisine! Very disappointing but a beautiful hotel none the less. The hotel in Granada left us a little disappointed as well, on kind of a trashy street in the downtown area with few restaurants nearby, We left wake up calls at all the hotels we stayed at and only received one in four requests even though we went directly to the front desk, in each case, to request them and watched as they either wrote it in their schedule or added it in their system. Was not happy about this as we had early morning starts each day of the tour. The locations were all amazing and the guides we met along the way were very good all around but there should be some alternate arrangements that can be made to accomodate some of the older clients as far as the amount of walking they had to do, maybe have some golf carts there to assist them through the long streches from point A to point B, especially in the case of the L'Hambra where it is a fair distance down a hill and then up one from the bus drop off to the starting point on the tour. Overall a good tour and I would book another through Tourradar but my advice would be to make inquiries into the hotels you're staying at and not be satisfied with the claim that they will be "similar" to the one you start in, they're not! I would also keep your tour short, you have a variety of nationalities on the bus and they all have their own ideas of what personal space is or is not and some have no idea what the meaning of lining up for something is all about.....I guess its a cultural thing maybe?

Lalo has a wonderful way of gathering everyone together by calling us "familia". It is an example of his warm friendly style, he never nags, never looses his cool, he is the best group leader I have ever encountered.
What our customers ask about Southern Spain Small Group Tours
How far in advance should I book a small group tour to Southern Spain?
For optimal planning and availability a booking window of 6-8 months is recommended for Southern Spain small group tours. These tours typically accommodate 8-12 travelers and spots fill quickly especially during peak travel months from April to June and September to October. Select accommodations such as the Soho Boutique Sevilla and Luna de Granada are in high demand for small groups. According to a TourRadar traveler: "Book well ahead - these intimate tours with their boutique accommodations and special experiences tend to sell out fast particularly during festival seasons in Seville and Granada."
How does small group travel enhance the experience of visiting Southern Spain's historic sites?
Groups of 8-12 travelers benefit from streamlined entry and personalized guided tours at key landmarks including Granada's Alhambra Seville's Alcazar and Cordoba's Mezquita. The central location of hotels like the Macia Alfaros in Cordoba enables visits during quieter early morning or evening hours. A TourRadar traveler noted "With our small group we could actually hear our guide's fascinating stories about the Alhambra's history and ask questions without fighting through crowds."
What unique experiences are available on small group tours in Southern Spain?
Smaller tour groups can access distinctive local experiences throughout Southern Spain. These range from private flamenco instruction in Seville to family vineyard tastings in Jerez and special access to Granada's Alhambra Palace. Local experiences extend to olive oil production tours in Zahara de la Sierra and farm-to-table dining. Many hotels like Luna de Granada arrange cooking classes specifically for small groups. As one TourRadar traveler noted: "We thoroughly enjoyed getting up close with local culture and having time to really experience each place without being rushed in a big group."
What kind of accommodations can I expect on small group tours in Southern Spain?
Accommodations focus on character-rich boutique properties across Southern Spain. Notable examples include the 27-room Soho Boutique Sevilla with its traditional Andalusian architecture and the individually styled rooms at Hotel Casa Palacio Pilar del Toro in Granada. These smaller properties typically house 15-30 rooms allowing groups to stay together. As one TourRadar traveler mentioned: "The hotels were carefully selected authentic properties that really added to the local experience much better than large chain hotels used by bigger groups."
What is the best way to travel between cities on small group tours in Southern Spain?
Transportation between major cities like Seville Granada and Cordoba typically uses dedicated minibuses sized for 8-12 travelers. This allows for stops at scenic white villages such as Grazalema. Some itineraries incorporate high-speed rail particularly for Madrid-Seville routes. Hotels like Luna de Granada and Silken Al Andalus offer convenient access to transportation. A TourRadar traveler noted: "Having our own minibus meant we could stop at fascinating places that large coaches couldn't access making the journeys between cities part of the adventure."
How much free time is typically included in small group tours of Southern Spain?
Daily schedules usually include 3-4 hours of independent exploration time. While guided tours of landmarks like Seville's Cathedral or the Alhambra occupy mornings afternoons often remain unstructured for personal interests. Properties like the Soho Boutique Palacio San Gabriel in Ronda serve as ideal bases for independent discovery. One TourRadar traveler shared: "The balance was perfect - structured time for learning about the sites but plenty of freedom to explore on our own or with new friends from the group."
