7 Day Switzerland Itinerary, incl. Zurich and Geneva
This comprehensive Swiss tour encompasses 16 destinations including Rhine Falls, Trummelbach mountain waterfall, and UNESCO-listed Lavaux vineyards. Visitors enjoy medieval Gruyères cheese tasting, Maison Cailler chocolate factory, and optional Jungfraujoch railway excursion.
- Day 1
Zurich
Arrive in Zurich and settle into your hotel in the afternoon. Keep in mind that August temperatures can reach 33°C/95°F and many places don't have air conditioning. Ask for a room fan if you need one. Most hotels are close to public transport, making it simple to explore the historic center in your free evening.
- Day 2
Zurich - Rhine Falls - Lucerne - Interlaken Region
Take a morning walking tour of Zurich's old town before visiting the medieval Stein am Rhein. Next, see Europe's largest waterfall at Rhine Falls - go early to beat the crowds. In Lucerne, take a guided walk through the historic center. One visitor noted: "The amount you get to see really gives you a good intro to Switzerland, with an excellent balance of natural beauty and cultural gems." You'll spend the night in the Interlaken region.
- Day 3
Lauterbrunnen Valley & Jungfrau Region
The Lauterbrunnen Valley, known as the "Valley of 72 Waterfalls" is your destination today. Visit Trümmelbach Falls inside the mountain and stop at the pretty village of Iseltwald on Lake Brienz. Want an adventure? Take an optional trip to Jungfraujoch. A recent visitor shares: "If you can handle the altitude, visiting Jungfraujoch is breathtaking - take the amazing cable car to 11,000+ feet for views of glaciers and the Ice Palace."
- Day 4
Bern - Gruyères - Montreux
Begin in Bern with a walking tour of the UNESCO-listed old town. Visit Gruyères for its cheese factory and stop at the Maison Cailler chocolate factory. According to one traveler: "The chocolate and cheese factories weren't as impressive as the natural sites, but good for cultural appreciation." End your day in French-speaking Montreux.
- Day 5
Montreux Region & Lake Geneva
Take this free day to discover the Swiss Riviera. Visit Charlie Chaplin's World museum and the Queen Studio Experience. Walk along Montreux's lakeside promenade and explore the UNESCO-listed Lavaux vineyards. A helpful tip from a visitor: "Use the free public transport cards provided by hotels to explore - the SBB app is very helpful for planning routes."
- Day 6
Chillon Castle - Lausanne - Geneva
- Day 7
Geneva
7 Day Switzerland Itinerary, incl. Zurich and Geneva
A grand Swiss circuit connects 9 cities, from Zurich's Hotel Züri to Geneva's Hotel Cornavin. Highlights feature Europe's largest Rhine Falls, medieval Gruyères cheese-making, Chillon Castle, and optional Jungfraujoch excursion at 3,454 meters, with daily breakfast for approx. $320 per day.
- Day 1
Zurich
The Old Town (Altstadt) is your perfect starting point. Get there before noon to settle in and start exploring. Walk down Bahnhofstrasse, Switzerland's main shopping street. Most stores close at 6:30 PM on weekdays, so plan accordingly. Consider getting a 24-hour ZurichCARD ($28) for unlimited public transport and museum access.
- Day 2
Zurich to Interlaken
Get an early start on Zurich's main sights before heading to Rhine Falls. Visit between 9-11 AM to see rainbows in the morning mist. Take the 1.5-hour drive to Lucerne and sit on the right side for the best lake views. Stop briefly at Lucerne's Chapel Bridge, then continue to Interlaken. You'll want to reach Interlaken by late afternoon to see Jungfrau in the golden light.
- Day 3
Interlaken Region
- Day 4
Bern and Gruyères
- Day 5
Lake Geneva Region
- Day 6
Swiss Riviera to Geneva
Visit Chillon Castle at 9 AM opening time before the tour buses arrive. The Lake Geneva drive to Lausanne offers great photo opportunities. Book your UN tour in Geneva ahead of time. End your day watching the sunset at Bains des Pâquis, a favorite local swimming spot.
- Day 7
Geneva Departure
If you have an afternoon flight, visit CERN in the morning (free but needs advance booking) or see the Flower Clock in the English Garden. Give yourself extra time for airport transfers during weekday rush hours (8-9:30 AM).
7 Day Switzerland Itinerary, incl. Lucerne and Geneva
The Swiss itinerary covers 5 iconic cities: Lucerne's Chapel Bridge, St. Moritz's spa quarter, Grindelwald's alpine views, Chillon Castle, and Geneva's Jet d'Eau, featuring Glacier Express ride and traditional fondue at Le Petit Chalet.
- Day 1
Zurich to Lucerne
Take the direct train from Zurich Airport to Lucerne. It's a 1-hour ride with trains running every hour. You can walk from the station to the medieval city center in about 10 minutes. "Watching the sunset over Lake Lucerne with the snow-capped mountains in the background was truly magical" said one visitor. If you can find a hotel near the Chapel Bridge you'll be perfectly placed for exploring the historic center and waterfront.
- Day 2
Lucerne to St. Moritz
Visit the Lion Monument early at 7 AM before the crowds show up. The trip to St. Moritz is about 4 hours through Lake Walensee and Chur. Bring motion sickness medication if you need it. The mountain roads have lots of turns. You'll get to St. Moritz's spa area in late afternoon with time to see the town's unique sgraffito-decorated buildings.
- Day 3
St. Moritz
Take your time in the morning to settle into St. Moritz. The UNESCO Bernina Pass train route is worth doing if the weather's good. Take the 10:25 AM train for the best photo light. St. Moritz sits at 5,900 feet so drink lots of water while you adjust. One visitor noted: "The spa at Hotel Laudinella was perfect for adjusting to the altitude. Book treatments in advance as they fill up quickly."
- Day 4
Glacier Express Journey
This is the big day. The full Glacier Express trip takes 8 hours. Make sure your camera's ready for the Landwasser Viaduct and Oberalp Pass. They serve lunch on board. Try to get a seat on the right side for the best Landwasser Viaduct views. The train ends in Grindelwald where you'll spend two nights in the Bernese Alps.
- Day 5
Grindelwald
Use this day to explore the Jungfrau area. For the Jungfraujoch ("Top of Europe") start early. The first trains up are less busy and usually have better weather. Bring warm clothes. It can be -10°C even in summer. A previous visitor advised: "The altitude at Jungfraujoch (11,332 ft) hit me hard - grab some coca tea at the station before heading up."
- Day 6
Chillon Castle and Geneva
Head to the Lake Geneva region in the morning. Plan about 2 hours for Chillon Castle and try to arrive before 11 AM to avoid the crowds. Walk the Montreux lakeside promenade, which looks beautiful during the Christmas market season. In Geneva you can see the UN Building and the Jet d'Eau fountain. End your day with authentic Swiss fondue.
- Day 7
Departure from Geneva
What people love about 7-day Switzerland tours
- Swiss Miracle
Everything in this tour was great! We (me, my mom, and other tour member) just couldnt ask for more. Our Guide and Driver (Vitali) was just super amazing. We all love him. He's just beyond for being a guide but he is also becoming our friend and family. For Hotel, in my opinion all the selected hotels are good, quiet, clean, and spacious enough. Not a luxury one (as it's only 4*) but comfortable enough, really. Here are my day to day impression about Vitali throughout the journey: Day 1 As soon as we met Vitali, we know that he is punctual, fun, experienced, and caring Day 2 As we visited Lucerne, Vitali is just so knowledgable regarding the history of the city. He also cares a lot for toilet, give us some space for pictures (ask for it) or he could also take tons of pics for you. Most importantly he tag good spot for pictures for you. Day 3 He plan for the best by rearranging the schedule based on the weather forecast, recommend good food, cared so much for eldery on the track difficulity, prepared for umbrella for the quests. And even genuinly get back to the car to get umbrella for you. Day 4 He answered to a wide range of question about Switzerland and informed all preparation you need for the next day weather. He is just always been so interesting and never been boring and he tried his best not to waste our time by leaving us and pick us up at the closest place to the attraction area, he will never made you travel a lot to the parking area. Day 5 Weather doesnt stop us (it was raining, windy, and freezingly cold), he tried to keep everything on schedule. We chose the CLOY option in Day 5, throughout the excursion, he know precisely every CLOY scene location. Today he made the tour more fun by giving us some QnA. Day 6 Eventhough it's a free day but he gave us complete information regarding the transport system in Montreux and Vevey. And places to visit. Day 7 Today he gave lots of historical information regarding chillon castle, Lavaux Vineyards, and Geneva. Eventhough the schedule is pack, but managed to keep everything on schedule so thus we have free time to explore Geneva city and do shopping for souverniers.
