- Day 1
Bijelo Polje
Start in Bijelo Polje ("White Field" in English), known for its meadows filled with daisies. Visit the village outskirts at 1050m elevation to stay with local families who live self-sufficiently. A traveler from the Netherlands shared: "The house had everything from fresh milk, eggs, vegetables, water from the spring and especially fruit (raspberry). The family is very lovely and eager to help with anything." Bring light layers since mountain temperatures change a lot between day and night. The homestays are 15-20 minutes from central Bijelo Polje by car, so make sure to arrange transport before you arrive.
- Day 2
Bjelasica Mountain
Start your day with a home-cooked breakfast before taking a jeep safari on Mount Bjelasica. You'll need good walking shoes for the volcanic terrain, especially around Sisko Lake where the paths can get muddy. The drive to the mountain house takes about 45 minutes on rough roads. If you get carsick, sit in the front seat. The hike to Saint Elijah Church has amazing views but includes some steep sections. By the lake, you can try traditional Montenegrin food like kačamak (polenta with cheese) and baklava. Planning to swim in summer? Bring water shoes since the lake bottom is rocky. You'll head back to your homestay for dinner in the late afternoon.
- Day 3
Pava's Field & Horseback Riding
After breakfast, visit the historic Pava's Field village, which has an interesting local love story. You can go horseback riding even if you're a beginner. The guides will teach you the basics and give you a horse that matches your experience level. Make sure to wear long pants and closed shoes. The ride usually takes 2-3 hours through quiet countryside. The trip ends with lunch in a village where children can play together, offering a nice chance for cultural exchange. It's a 30-minute drive back to Bijelo Polje, so plan your departure flights or next destination accordingly.
- Day 1
Bijelo Polje & Mountain Villages
You'll start in Bijelo Polje with two options to reach your mountain accommodation: an 8km paved road or a more adventurous 10km dirt path through rural villages. Your guesthouse sits at 1,050m elevation with panoramic views over Bijelo Polje. If the weather is dry take the dirt road for better rural scenery but stick to asphalt after rain when mountain paths get slippery. In the evening you'll join an interactive cooking class to learn traditional Montenegrin dishes with local hosts.
- Day 2
E-Bike Adventure in Vraneska Valley
A 45-minute transfer takes you to the villages of Tomasevo and Pavino Polje. The e-bike tour covers about 35km with 450m elevation gain but routes can be adjusted based on fitness levels. Bring plenty of water. Even though northern Montenegro is cooler than the coast summer afternoons can get quite warm. You'll bike through traditional villages and finish near the Cehotina River where you'll spend the night.
- Day 3
Kayaking the Cehotina River
Your last day mixes kayaking swimming and cultural experiences. After a 40-minute morning transfer to the Cehotina River you'll paddle through beautiful meanders before reaching the Otilovici dam. A key stop is exploring a Paleolithic cave that shows traces of the region's earliest human settlements. If you like fishing you can get permits to fish in the Cehotina's clear waters. The day wraps up at a local home learning traditional recipes before heading back to Bijelo Polje.
3 Day Montenegro & Bosnia Itinerary, incl. Kotor and Trebinje
This 3-day tour highlights Montenegro's finest spots. The first day takes you through Kotor and Budva, followed by a second day in Perast before heading to Bosnia. Comfortable stays with breakfast and air-conditioned transportation included.
- Day 1
Kotor & Budva, Montenegro
Leave Tivat early for the 20-minute drive to Kotor's UNESCO-listed Old Town. Get there before the cruise ships arrive around 10 AM. The fortress climb takes you up 1,350 steps - tackle this early to beat the midday heat and pack water. The path can get slippery when wet so good shoes are essential. Later, take the 30-minute drive to Budva to explore its medieval center. Stay overnight in Budva's new town where you'll find better hotel deals than in the tourist-heavy old town.
- Day 2
Perast & Trebinje
Start your day in the beautiful coastal town of Perast. Boats leave every 15 minutes from the main pier to Our Lady of the Rocks island - tickets cost €5. Next, drive 1.5 hours north to Trebinje in Bosnia-Herzegovina. Your first stop should be Tvrdoš Monastery to sample their wines made by monks using local Vranac grapes. Spend your evening walking through Trebinje's Ottoman old town and trying local Herzegovinian food. Stay overnight in Trebinje.
- Day 3
Vjetrenica Cave & Return to Tivat
Begin at Trebinje's Hercegovačka Gračanica church on the hill for great views. Drive 45 minutes to Vjetrenica Cave, a UNESCO tentative site. The cave stays at 11°C year-round so bring something warm to wear. Visit Zavala Monastery nearby, built partly into the rock, before driving 2.5 hours back to Tivat. Plan your return to avoid the busiest border times between 4-6 PM.
