What people love about Sailing Tours from Athens
- Sailing Greece - Athens to Mykonos
It was a good experience, we had a good group of people and had lots of fun. Unfortunately the wind changed the islands we planned on going to multiple times but it was all good in the end. Ended up spending 2 nights in Mykonos rather than the 1.
- Sailing Greece - Athens to Santorini
Great Trip to explore the best the Greece Cyclades has to offer. Having a small boat allows you get all of the best sites with some off the beaten track.
- Luxury Sailing & Archaeology adventure 8days
Hands down best trip ever! Danae and Costas were very gracious hosts and passionate about sharing a unique side of Greece. The coordination of island visits, licensed tour guides, transportation and accommodations were executed flawlessly. Danae presented detailed info prior to each destination and was an absolute joy to travel with. Costas takes great pride in his boat Carmen and ensures that his guests are safe, comfortable and have a great time sailing. He even fished my cell phone out of the water when it went overboard!!!! We enjoyed sharing stories as we traveled from port to port. Danae provided wonderful breakfasts each morning and great restaurant recommendations each evening. The final day included a tour of the Acropolis Museum and Parthenon and her suggestion to visit the National Museum put the entire trip in to perspective! Communication prior to the trip was easy and all of our questions were responded to quickly considering the 10 hour time difference. Definitely recommend to anyone who wants to see a different side of Greece!

What are the most common islands on sailing tours from Athens?
From Athens, boats regularly visit the beautiful islands in the Saronic and Cyclades regions. You'll stop at favorites like Aegina, Poros, Hydra, Spetses, and Mykonos, plus some lesser-known spots like Agkistri and Dokos. Many travelers mention loving "the crystal clear waters of Agkistri island, the Temple of Aphaea on Aegina, and the car-free charm of Hydra." Most tours spend nights docked at Marina Zeas in Piraeus or Alimos Marina.
When is the best time for sailing tours from Athens?
The best sailing happens from May to September when the weather is warm (75-85°F/24-29°C) and the seas are calm. July and August have perfect weather but also the biggest crowds. If you want a more relaxed trip with nice temperatures, go in May, June, or September. Most boat companies like Trails Beyond run their tours during these months.
What are the best swimming spots on sailing tours from Athens?
You'll find amazing swimming at Moni islet, where peacocks and deer roam freely on an uninhabited beach. The water around Agkistri island is perfect for snorkeling - it's the closest natural paradise to Athens. One traveler told us "we never thought we could find such beautiful places and turquoise waters so close to Athens!" Another great spot is Russian Bay on Poros island, with its sandy beach and bright blue water.
How many islands can I visit on a sailing tour from Athens?
On a 6-day trip, you'll usually see 3-4 islands in the Saronic Gulf. Longer trips of 8-11 days can take you to 6-7 islands. Most tours stop at Aegina, Poros, Hydra, and Spetses. Even on short trips, you can pack in quite a bit - travelers on 2-day tours tell us "We visited Aegina, Moni, and Agkistri islands, experiencing a perfect mix of history, swimming, and local culture."
Where do sailing tours start in Athens?
Three main marinas serve as starting points: Alimos Marina (the biggest), Kalamaki Marina (great for smaller groups), and Piraeus Marina (closest to downtown). They're all easy to reach from the city center and airport - Alimos is about 8 miles from downtown Athens. Most tours set sail between 8:00 and 9:30 in the morning.
How long are sailing tours from Athens?
Most tours run between 8 and 15 days, with 8-day trips being really popular, like the Southern Cyclades Cruise and Northern Cyclades Cruise. These tours give you enough time to see major islands like Milos, Santorini, and Mykonos. You'll stay on nice boats like the Running on Waves ship, which has comfortable cabins, and some tours include stays at places like the Grand Hotel Amalia Athens before the cruise.
