The hotels were too far from the city center. Some were 45-1 hour from town. I would have enjoyed more time on free days in town if I didn’t have to navigate my way back to the hotel and perhaps enjoyed a nice dinner. DONT like seat rotation. I had a 10 day tour and I spent most of it in the back of the bus. I get motion sickness which I mentioned to our tour leader She said wait until I get sick then she would move me. Anyone that experiences motion sickness knows that once you feel sick it is already too late. Expat advertised that we would be stopping at the Stave Church We did not. I found out that the church is closed to the public after August 31 each year. They should have taken it off the itinerary or at least warn people that it is now a drive by which we didn’t get because a wedding was being held there. I notice that Expat is still advertising it as a stop on their website. I found our tour leader as indifferent and at times dismissive. At one point we got off the bus and she was already long gone. We had to ask the bus driver what direction she went so we could catch up. I felt that in a lot of cases we just got dumped off to navigate on our own Our bus driver Csaba was the best. Very nice, hard working and kind. Over all I will never book with Expat Explorer again.

We had a fabulous tour on Scandinavian Escape tour. We thank Emma, our guide, for her informative and interesting stories and antidotes. Her love of history and knowledge of different cultures and customs was evident and it enriched our understanding which helped us enjoy the trip even more.

The destinations itself were beautiful but this is will be last time I use Expat! Had few hiccups and more with this trip closed the deal. I also mentioned that I had put in a special medical accommodation that he seemed to wasted it off. First day of our tour tour leader didn't even make sure we all had rooms. Therefore wasted two hours trying to get a room and trying to get hold of him. A good guide sets the tone for the trip, but unfortunately ours didn’t seem on top of things at all. There was little to no initiative taken — no clear instructions, no energy in leading the group, and barely any recommendations on where to go or what to do. Everyone on tour felt the same about the tour guide unfortunately.

Excellent tour. Well organised with minor details taken care of. The guide Inga and the driver Victor worked very hard to ensure we were well taken care of at every stage and stop of the journey. Appreciate the micro level planning that was done to make it all seamless. Hotels were largely good, except in Copenhagen where we found the room wanting. Otherwise, places / cities and attractions covered were also good - appreciate we don't have infinite time to cover more attractions in a city. Travel planning between cities was spot on with no overruns and time management for such a large group was also excellent. Apart from the hotel in CPH, the other feedback I have for the tour is regarding the itinerary information itself. I personally didn't know that the tour was progressing onwards to Finland, Estonia etc. There were many others in the tour group who were also not aware. I am sure some of us may have done bookings differently and covered more destinations.

Luke was an amazing tour leader. He made everything simple and fun. He made the bus rides enjoyable sharing his knowledge about the area and challenging us to some quizzes. He was always part of the group inviting us to join him for dinners or a beer instead of using his free time for himself. I cannot wait for our next tour with him as our guide.

While we generally recommend our tours for travelers aged 10 and above, we absolutely accept those outside the age range as long as they're fit and do not require the use of a wheelchair or electric mobility aid. Many seniors join our tours and have an incredible time! That said, we do like to ensure all travelers are aware of the physical demands: our itineraries include walking tours of up to 2–3 hours (fast-pace), often on cobblestone streets, and some hotels may not have lifts. Coaches have higher steps and no internal lift, and guests are expected to carry their own luggage. We also operate on a fairly strict schedule with some long travel days and limited bathroom breaks.

    Transport
    • Expat Explore TravelOperatorWritten March 2025

For the Scandinavian Escape tour, the overnight ferry accommodation consists of shared cabins with private bathrooms. Even-numbered groups (traveling in pairs) will be accommodated together in the same cabin. Solo travelers will be paired with another traveler of the same gender unless they opt for a single supplement upgrade (subject to availability). The ferry also offers various facilities, including restaurants, lounges, and onboard shops, ensuring a comfortable journey. Regarding buses, all our modern, air-conditioned coaches are equipped with onboard restrooms, though they are intended for emergency use. The tour includes regular stopovers every 2.5-3 hours, allowing travelers to stretch, use restrooms, and grab refreshments. However, exact stop times may vary depending on the route, traffic, and itinerary.

one final question. i see that travel insurance is required and there are specifics regarding Quarantine Expenses and Emergency and Covid-19. are these still relevant? I don't tend to see this coverage on most policies.

    • Expat Explore TravelOperatorWritten March 2025

When you sign up for an Expat Explore tour, you are required to secure adequate travel insurance cover for the duration of your trip. If you cannot provide the Expat Explore team with a proof of adequate travel insurance prior to the start of your tour, you will not be permitted to embark on day one. Travel insurance should be as much a part of your travel preparation as packing your camera, sunglasses and passport! Incidents can happen from flight and baggage delays to injuries and sickness. Travel insurance gives you (and us) peace of mind, and, for this reason we make it compulsory for all Expat Explore passengers.

    • Expat Explore TravelOperatorWritten January 2025

Travelers can choose to leave the tour early. However, since our Tours are sold as a package, we cannot offer any discounts for customers who leave the tour early. Tipping is a normal part of the culture in many countries. We suggest somewhere between £4-£6, €5-€7 or $6-$8 per person per day. Tipping is entirely voluntary. If you take a walking tour with a local guide, tipping these guides at the end of walking tours and excursions is always appreciated, but not expected.

    Transport
    • Expat Explore TravelOperatorWritten November 2024

While on the tour, transportation is primarily through our own Coach/Bus. However, there might be times that the group will have to take Public Transport guided by the tour leader but that will also be already part of the package. The only times that a customer will have to pay for their transportation is when they want to explore on their own during Free Days.
