First of all, it took Tour Radar 7 days to reply to my questions. The first 2 days of the tour were OK. On the third night, at the “lodge”, i slept on the worst mattress in my life. Let me say it again, i slept on metal springs. To use the bathroom or the shower, i had to leave the building, second floor, go across long courtyard to another building to use a bathroom! The tour guide at Aquas Calientes gave me a ticket to Machu Picchu and MP. Mountain with instructions to text him when I was done with the mountain, so he can give me a tour of Machu Picchu. I got up at 4:30 in the morning to be one of the first at the gate. When I presented the ticket, i was told that i had a ticket for the wrong date!!! So I had to wait for over an hour for my guide to show up with a different ticket. In a mean time, thousands of other tourists went inside, preventing me to photograph without tourists. And the best time to photograph, the sunrise, was gone. Also, i asked the guide what to do with my luggage while I am hiking in Machu Picchu and he told me to leave it in the hotel. Wrong! Check out was at 10 in the morning. So I had to rush from the mountain to check out on time. No Machu Picchu Mountain! The company should have known about 10 AM checkout. Also hotel did not have hot water for 4 hours. Finally, if checkout is at 10, and my train ticket is for 14:55, I had to sit in the lobby for 3 hours! Not good planning. The website stated that porters: horses, donkeys and cars will be carrying luggage up to 5 kg. On day 4, I had to carry it. There were many other things but i am giving you just the highlights.

We would probably ahve chosen an easier trek because was a little beyond or physical capacities. We had to take it extra slow and felt the distance trekked was A LOT! Despite that, the views are incredible and we were happy we put ourselves up to the challenge and didn't ahve totake the horse over the high pass. Machu Picchu was a breeze compared to Salkantay!

This trek will test your character! We experienced sweat, tears and blood (only a little after falling down on a rock). Our guide Junior was right there by our side the whole time and was prepare to react in any situation. You could tell he had lots of experience. He spoke great English and was ready to help us with anything we needed. We wish we could take him home with us. We miss you Junior!

To date, this remains our BEST MAJOR HIGHLIGHT of all South America. Salkantay and Machu Picchu beats everything else we've seen in our travels. We would come back and do it again!

We went as a family (2kids ages 16 and 18, adults ages 50+) and have no complaints. We were well taken care of the entire time. Machu Picchu was our highlight especially being able to stay extra time on our own in the ruins until we were ready to return to Aguas Calientes.

Simply amazing! I'm in my 50's and wanted to take my kids on a Peruvian adventure and boy was this trip great! It pushed us all to our limits and brought us together after seeing what we accomplished together. We are talking about coming back again and doing another trek with bamba!

FYI - there are some VERY EARLY wake up calls and LONG days, LONG distances trekked each day. This is a SERIOUS trek, not for amateurs. You must really love nature to enjoy this trek. It was a great way to really see the REAL PERU and an alternative route to Machu Picchu. It was worth it but not for the weary.
