- JRJo-Ann· March 30th, 2025Rate is your 10 out of 10 Thank you so much to Jonesmus, Peter and Dave who made this tour an outstanding opportunity to experience Africa. We had a magnificent time. Yes we were taken out of our comfort zone and taken to a wonderful country of Africa. We loved our camping the long drives racing to the next border crossing hoping you can get through. To singing in the bus enjoying the company of your follow passengers. We love the hotel rooms swimming pools bars and entertainment and talking around campsite while cooking. The highlight was the safaris. There is no words to describe the feeling when you say I heard of giraffes walking out of the trees into the clearing of the first time. Seeing a heard of lions and a baby cub drinking from its mum or seeing a leopard up the tree with its kill or just baking in the tree. Seeing a cheetahs sun baking in the sun right next to the safari truck without a care in the world. We did the Gorillaz to South Africa tour for 76 days and thoroughly enjoyed it. I would highly recommend this tour to everyone who is thinking of doing a camping safari. There’s only one thing I suggest, to remember where you are going too, what you doing, mentally repair yourself for that and enjoy. Yes the safari is gonna be hot, depending on the time of year, dusty if in Kenya if Kenya is still in an drought, but it makes a magnificent experience.l loved so much lm doing it all over again. - Lisa· April 22nd, 2017Life Changing!! An amazing experience; beginning to end! Would recommend to anyone that is open minded and truly wants to see the real Africa. As far as an operation goes, Absolute did a very good job. Some improvements need to be made; for sure. But in terms of the route, activities and options it is an excellent choice. Safety was never a concern. Not all guides are created equal. Which is true for any tour you'll choose. Our first guide had "checked out" and didn't have leadership skills. When you have such a large diverse group you need someone in control and we were so lucky to get a second guide that was just that. Fun, good leadership skills and engaging. Know that all age ranges are on this trip; some real young and several in their 60's. That can be a challenging mix, so be ready to be trapped on a truck with all kinds of people...ha! Seriously, go with an open mind and you will LOVE the people that you share the journey with. Also, read everything before you book! A lot of people were shocked by what was covered and what wasn't. Some also thought it was nice to luxury accommodations; it's definitely roughing it in Africa!!Show moreAbsolute Africa commented on this reviewThank you for your honest review, Lisa. We are glad you enjoyed your tour with us. This is absolutely what we are about - seeing the real Africa from the grass routes and meeting a whole spectrum of people from all walks of life to share the journey... Asked on December 10th, 2023we are interested in this tour for early 2025 but we have two children aged at the time 5 and 3. Can you please check if this is an option for us
- Absolute AfricaOperator•Written December 2023
Most longer tours would be via Overland Vehicles and include camping and shared camp duties. Because of this, all traveler would need to be 18 years or older. However, I have sorted out all tours that would allow a 3 year old on tour.

Asked on March 17th, 2022Is it possible to just book the ferry to Zanzibar and stay with a friend?
- Absolute AfricaOperator•Written March 2022
We usually run every scheduled tour even if the number of people who have booked is small, but if only 2 or 3 people have booked then we try to see if we can amend the itinerary to join up with a tour that is running.

- Absolute AfricaOperator•Written June 2022
With regard to Zanzibar it will be possible just to book the ferry with us and you can then make your own accommodation and transfer arrangements with your friend on the island.
- Absolute AfricaOperator•Written June 2022
We will take toilet stops as we travel by the side of the road as we travel.
- Absolute AfricaOperator•Written June 2022
If you choose to pay in installments, simply select to pay in installments when placing your booking and these smaller payments will be automatically deducted every 2 weeks on the set dates as outlined on the Book Now Page.

Asked on March 8th, 2022Could you please give me a quote for 2 persons for the 21/08/2022 departure. I would like to be able to bring an folder stretching bed. Camping is fine but can not sleep on the ground. Can I have a list of other accommodation that can be booked at the different locations if possible in advance. When do we pay for the optional tours. I noticed in the pricing the cost of $1,182.00 is local payment. Is this an add on cost at the being of the tour and at what currency. I have an vegan traveller. Do you cater for vegans?
- Absolute AfricaOperator•Written March 2022
The price of the Gorillas to CapeTown tour is £2665 per person and there is a local payment of U$850 per person, which needs to be paid in USD cash to the tour leader on day one of the tour. You can bring a stretcher, but it should fold up to the size of a suitcase/large bag due to the space on the truck. At quite a few of the campsites there is the option to upgrade to a room, this cannot be booked in advance but will need to be booked and paid on the spot as you go along and is subject to availability. Prices range from U$10 to U$100 per night per room depending on the campsite and room type. The optional trips that need to be paid for in advance are the gorilla permit (£570 pp) and the Zanzibar excursion (£245 pp). We can cater for vegans, just let us know this when you book and we will inform the tour leader so he/she can take this into account for the meal preparations.

Asked on February 19th, 2016When is the best time to view the migration?
- Absolute AfricaOperator•Written February 2016
The prime time to visit the Serengeti in Tanzania is usually regarded as being from late November through to March when the big herds of wildebeest, Thomson’s gazelle and zebra head on to the southern plains of the Serengeti.
To get the best viewing on the other hand in Kenya's Masai Mara July through to September are usually regarded as the best months.

Asked on February 15th, 2016What is the local payment?
- Absolute AfricaOperator•Written February 2016
The local payment is a separate payment from the initial price you pay before you leave. If a local payment is required it will be shown with the trip price. This second payment is made in Africa at the start of your trip. It is payable in USD. The local payment provides us with the means for expenses that need to be paid in cash to local businesses en route to be arranged in the most cost effective manner possible, a saving we can then pass on to you. It also means we can operate in a way that directly supports local businesses and wildlife authorities as we travel. Local Payment will not be changed once you have booked your travel arrangements.

Asked on February 15th, 2016How much will this trip really cost me?
- Absolute AfricaOperator•Written February 2016
The costs to consider when travelling overland are:
Safari price & Local payment,
Optional excursions,
Personal spending money,
Visas.
We are always very transparent about what a tour will cost and are happy to go through personal, tailored budgets to give you a very realistic idea of what you will spend on your tour - whether you are an adrenaline junkie, souvenir-shopaholic or travelling on a shoestring…
