Itinerary

  1. Day 1

    Nairobi

You'll touch down in Kenya and head to Kenya Comfort Hotel to get settled for the night. The country has this vibrant energy right from the start, and locals greet visitors with 'jambo' or 'hakuna matata' as you adjust to the time zone and prepare for the safari that's about to begin.

  2. Day 2

    Nairobi to Masai Mara

The drive takes you toward Masai Mara National Reserve, and you'll pass through Masai land where pastoralists tend cattle and you might catch some wildlife along the way. You'll reach Mara Springs Tented Safari Camp for your next two nights, staying in an area where the unfenced reserve lets animals move freely across the landscape.

  3. Day 3

    Masai Mara

An early start gets you out shortly after sunrise for a game drive into Masai Mara National Reserve. You'll search for the Big 5 (elephant, rhino, buffalo, lion, leopard) and spot other wildlife species throughout the day. The reserve is one of East Africa's premier locations, particularly known for the annual migration of over 1 million wildebeest, zebra, and Thomson's gazelle between July and October.

  4. Day 4

    Masai Mara to Nakuru

You leave the Masai Mara behind and drive toward Nakuru, Kenya's 4th largest town and the capital of Rift Valley Province. Setting up at Punda Millas for two nights puts you just outside town near Lake Nakuru National Park, which has plenty of wildlife to see in the coming days.

  5. Day 5

    Lake Nakuru

Spend your time at Lake Nakuru National Park, where thousands of lesser and greater flamingos line the soda lake's edge. When water levels drop, the lake takes on an almost pink appearance from all the birds. The park was established to protect black and white rhinos, which you'll likely spot, and you can search for leopards, buffalo, giraffe, and various antelope throughout the day.

  6. Day 6

    Nakuru to Kisii/Kericho

After breakfast, you head to Kisii or Kericho in the Gusii Highlands, where tea and coffee plantations thrive in the equatorial climate. These are the main commercial centers in the region, and it's a good place to stock up on supplies before crossing into Tanzania tomorrow. You'll spend the night at Ray's Place Inn.

    Meals
    Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
  7. Day 7

    Kenya to Tanzania

Today you cross the border from Kenya into Tanzania. The scenic drive takes you through granite landscapes near Lake Victoria, Africa's largest lake. You'll arrive in Musoma, a fishing town on the lake, and camp at Tembo Beach Resort right on the water for the night.

  8. Days 8 - 9

Serengeti National Park to Ngorongoro Crater

After stocking up on supplies, you head into Serengeti National Park (Masai for 'endless plains'). The route goes through the lesser-travelled western corridor before reaching your camp in the park's center. The next morning brings more game driving to search for the Big 5 and plains game. By day 9, you pack up early and continue driving through the Serengeti toward the southern plains, then cross into Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Descending into the Ngorongoro Crater, with its 600m high walls and 20km width, you'll game drive on the crater floor where nearly every African animal species lives, elephant, rhino, buffalo, hippo, lion, and plains game included. You finish the evening at a campsite outside Arusha.

  9. Day 10
