  1. Days 1 - 6

    Ohakune

    Your second free day in Ohakune. If you're interested, join an optional half-day drive up the mountain road past the historic Grand Chateau hotel to Whakapapa Village for views across the western North Island. You could also walk the scenic 6km track to Taranaki Falls, one of the region's best short walks. There's plenty to keep you busy or you can just relax around town.

    You have the full day to explore Waitomo's underground world and glow-worm displays. There are cave tours, black water rafting, abseiling, ziplining, bushwalking, and a Discovery Centre and Museum. Most activities are walkable from the campsite or offer convenient pick-ups and drop-offs, so it's easy to try whatever interests you most.

    You have the day free in Napier, one of New Zealand's premier food and wine regions. Take a wine tour of the Hawkes Bay vineyards, or visit the scenic Cape Kidnappers gannet colony. Stroll the pretty seafront along Marine Parade admiring the many Art Deco buildings, or explore the charming old harbor area with its boutique shops and cafes.

    You have the day free in the heart of the Eastern Bay of Plenty, known for the highest annual sunshine hours in New Zealand. Explore the beautiful natural setting, try world-class fishing for yellowfin tuna, which are caught here more than anywhere else in New Zealand. Take a boat trip to Moutohora/Whale Island wildlife sanctuary to see native birdlife, or experience a scenic flight over the constantly erupting White Island volcano.

  6. Days 26 - 30

    Coromandel Town

    You have the full day exploring Coromandel Town, a unique settlement with character, soul, and ambience. Browse galleries and craft shops, visit restored Victorian buildings and the small mining museum, or explore nearby bush and beach walks. Weather permitting, optionally join a drive north to explore the remote beauty of the peninsula's northern tip and attempt to access part of the Coromandel Coastal Walkway.

Take the frequent foot ferry across to Paihia, the Bay of Islands' main tourist town, and visit historic Waitangi, one of New Zealand's most important cultural sites where the Treaty of Waitangi was signed in 1840. Explore the Treaty House, view the intricately carved Māori meeting house and traditional Waka, experience live cultural performances, and see museums and beautiful grounds.

Wind up steep hills to reach the Cape, rewarded with dramatic views where the Tasman Sea and Pacific Ocean's distinct colors meet. Stroll to the iconic lighthouse with outstanding panoramic northern coastline views.

After lunch, drive into Auckland city for final goodbyes, then you'll be dropped off in the central city or at the airport.
