Itinerary
- Day 1
Marrakech to Zagora
You'll leave your Marrakech hotel early morning and head toward the High Atlas Mountains, driving across the Tichka pass which sits at 2260m. From there you'll reach Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage site with an ancient kasbah where you can walk through the historic streets and see how people lived in this fortified settlement. The route then takes you through the Draa Valley, passing through palm groves and Berber villages as you make your way to Zagora. Once you arrive in the evening, you'll ride by camel out to the Tinfou Dunes to catch the sunset over the Sahara, which gives you a real sense of the desert landscape you'll explore over the next few days.

- Day 2
Zagora to Merzouga
After breakfast in the quiet desert surroundings at Zagora Tinfou, you'll travel to Tamgroute village where there's a historic Quranic library to see. The pottery workshops there let you watch artisans work on intricate ceramics, which is a nice chance to see traditional craftsmanship. From Tamgroute you'll move through the rugged landscapes of Anif with mountain and valley views stretching out around you. Late afternoon you'll arrive in Merzouga and then head by camel into Erg Chebbi's sand dunes toward your desert camp, so you're getting your first real taste of the massive dunes themselves.

Merzouga to Dades Gorges
You'll wake early to see the sunrise over the sand dunes, then have breakfast at the camp with the desert all around you. Heading out from Merzouga toward Erfoud, you can check out the bustling markets and fossil workshops there, which give you a feel for local commerce and the area's geological history. After that the route continues to the Todra Gorges where towering cliffs rise up dramatically around you. By evening you'll be at the Dades Gorges, known for its steep rock formations and the palm groves that line the canyon floor, making for quite a different landscape from the open dunes.

- Day 4
Dades Gorges to Marrakech
Leaving the dramatic canyon landscapes of Dades Gorges behind, you'll journey through the Valley of the Roses, a route filled with vibrant blooms and lush vegetation that contrasts with the desert scenery. The drive continues to Ouarzazate, a historic city with a strong cinematic heritage and several ancient kasbahs worth seeing. By evening you'll be back in Marrakech where your 4-day desert adventure wraps up, giving you time to rest after moving through these different landscapes and getting that mix of mountain, desert, and oasis experiences.
