Zurich
You'll arrive in Zurich by train from the Swiss border or drive in, then settle into your hotel for two nights. This vibrant city sits right where it all begins, and you've got plenty of time to get oriented before things really kick off.

Zurich
Today is yours to spend however you like around Zurich. The city's got this great mix of urban energy, waterfront areas, and mountains all nearby. If Rhine Falls interests you, there's an optional train trip to Schaffhausen you can add on. Otherwise, just wander the neighborhoods and get a feel for the place.

- Day 3
Zurich - Montreux
Board a train at Zurich main station heading toward Lausanne, running right along Lake Geneva. You'll roll past the UNESCO-listed Lavaux vineyards across the Vaud Riviera before pulling into Montreux for a one-night stay. This lakeside town is known for hosting the jazz festival, so there's a certain charm to the place even between festivals.

Montreux - Locarno
Take the train along Lake Geneva and through the Rhone Valley toward Italy. After passing through Brig, you'll change to the famous Centovalli Railway at Domodossola. You'll end up in Locarno on Lake Maggiore for two nights, surrounded by mountains and valleys.

Locarno - Lucerne
Board the Treno Gotthardo for one of Switzerland's most spectacular rail routes. You'll depart Locarno on Lake Maggiore and head north through mountainous terrain with views of Lake Lucerne and the Alps coming into sight. Pull into Lucerne for a one-night stay, and you can see why this stretch is considered one of the country's best train journeys.

Lucerne - St. Gallen
The Voralpen Express takes you through Central Switzerland next, winding through the Alptal valley with idyllic lakes and rolling hills passing by your window. Arrive in St. Gallen for one night, where the historic old town and the famous St. Gallen Abbey are there for you to check out.
