Itinerary
- Day 1
Colombo to Mirissa
You'll land at Bandaranaike International Airport and head toward Mirissa, but there's plenty to see along the way. First up is a boat safari through Madu Ganga wetlands where mangrove forests line the waterways. After that, you'll stop at the Ahungalla Turtle Conservation Project to learn about the work happening there with sea turtles. The Ambalangoda Mask Museum comes next, showing traditional mask-making techniques that have been part of Sri Lankan culture for generations. Then you'll tour the Meetiyagoda Moonstone Mines to see how these gemstones are extracted. Before settling in for the evening, you'll walk through the historic Galle Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with its impressive colonial-era walls and buildings. By the time you reach your beachfront hotel in Mirissa, you'll have covered quite a bit of ground and can relax by the ocean.

- Day 2
Mirissa
Start early and head out about 15 kilometers off the Mirissa coast for a whale and dolphin watching excursion. You'll be looking for Blue Whales, Bryde's Whales, Sperm Whales, and Fin Whales, along with various dolphin species like Spinners, Bottlenose, Risso's, and Striped dolphins. There's also a chance you'll see flying fish, sea turtles, manta rays, and sharks if conditions are right. After returning to shore, you can spend time at Unawatuna Beach with its golden crescent of sand. Later in the day, head to Weligama to watch the stilt fishermen at work, a traditional fishing method that's been practiced there for generations using wooden poles anchored in the shallow water.

- Day 3
Mirissa to Udawalawe via Tissamaharama
After breakfast, you'll travel from Mirissa to Udawalawe by way of Tissamaharama, passing through lush countryside and small towns along the route. The main stop is the Elephant Transit Home, where orphaned baby elephants are bottle-fed and cared for by wildlife professionals as part of a significant conservation effort. After lunch, you'll move into Udawalawe National Park for an afternoon safari. On the grasslands and around reservoirs, you'll look for wild Sri Lankan elephants, water buffalo, crocodiles, spotted deer, jackals, and various bird species. It's a good day if you're hoping to see elephants in their natural habitat and understand how they're managed within the park.

- Day 4
Tissamaharama to Yala National Park
Leave early with a packed breakfast for a full-day private safari into Yala National Park. A naturalist guide will be with you as you drive through dense forests, grasslands, and lagoons searching for leopards, which this park is famous for having in high numbers. You'll also encounter Asian elephants, sloth bears, wild boars, sambar and spotted deer, golden jackals, and over 130 bird species including painted storks, pelicans, flamingos, and eagles. The guide will make multiple stops for wildlife viewing and photography, so bring a good camera and be ready to spend most of the day in the vehicle looking out for wildlife.

- Day 5
Tissamaharama to Colombo and Departure
Have a leisurely breakfast, then prepare for your transfer to Colombo Bandaranaike International Airport for your onward flight. If your flight timing allows, there's an optional guided city tour available where you can see Gangaramaya Temple, the Dutch Hospital which is now a shopping and dining area, and Twin Towers. This gives you a final look at Colombo's cultural landmarks and historic sites before heading to the airport for departure.
