Itinerary
- Day 1
Ipswich
You'll arrive in Ipswich and settle into your hotel in the city center. After that, the afternoon and evening are yours to do as you like. Consider checking out the Workshops Rail Museum if you're interested in locomotives and railway history, or take a walk through Queens Park where you might spot native Australian wildlife. Brisbane Street has plenty of cafes and shops to browse at Top of Town if you'd prefer something more low-key.

- Day 2
Wulkuraka to Esk
Your cycling starts with a pickup from your accommodation and a transfer to Wulkuraka railway station. The first ride is easy and pleasant through Fernvale and Lowood, both good spots to grab coffee or lunch. The trail runs along an old railway line that's fairly flat and well-maintained. You'll transition from urban areas into bushland as things get more rural, then roll into Esk, a welcoming town with cafes, shops, and access to the Brisbane Valley and Ravensbourne National Park.

Esk to Linville
Cycling north from Esk takes you through Toogoolawah and Moore. Stop at Have a Chat café in Toogoolawah after about 19km for excellent coffee and breakfast. Later, you'll ride through the heritage-listed Yinbun Tunnel, the only tunnel on this entire route. Before the final 7km to Linville, check out the Old Church Gallery in Moore if it's open (Thursday to Sunday, 10am to 4pm). Linville is quiet and small, the perfect end point for the day.

Linville to Yarraman
Today takes you to Yarraman through Blackbutt and Benarkin. You'll climb the Blackbutt Range with reasonable gradients, watching the landscape shift as you move from the Brisbane Valley toward the Great Dividing Range. The climate, soil, and vegetation all change noticeably as you go higher. Benarkin has public facilities and a small shop if you need supplies. Blackbutt is a solid lunch option with cafes and the best bakery on the whole route. The final 19km completes the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail.

Yarraman to Nanango
This leg shifts to rural back roads and forest tracks from Yarraman to Nanango, covering 28km and connecting two rail trails. You'll notice the riding feels different now—instead of gentle climbs, you're cycling across agricultural land with great views and through shady hoop pine plantations. There are no towns between start and finish, but since it's only 28km, you can take time for lunch and explore Nanango later with its supermarket and cycling loops.

Landmarks Nanango - Day 6
Nanango to Wondai
You'll cycle from Nanango to Kingaroy (33km), then pick up the Kiamba-Kandanga Rail Trail for 30km to Wondai. The first section has long stretches across agricultural land with deep red soil where peanuts grow. Kingaroy is Australia's peanut capital—stop at the famous peanut truck on the left side of town. After connecting to the KKRT, take a break in Wooroolin on the wetland edge, then ride the final 15km to Wondai.

Wondai to Kilkivan
Your last cycling day starts with a 15km ride to Murgon, a town near Cherbourg Aboriginal Reserve with a significant Indigenous population. The Dairy and Heritage Museum is worth stopping in (open daily 9:30am to 12pm, closed Mondays and some public holidays). Cycle another 15km to Goomeri for lunch—several cafes and pubs there. If it's warm, cool off at the local pool. The final 29km to Kilkivan needs a few dismounts but stays relatively flat. You'll reach your final accommodation after 60km of riding.

Kilkivan to Ipswich
Your pickup back to Ipswich is usually late morning for the long but pleasant 250km drive. You can relax and think back on your cycling adventure as you pass through the towns and landscapes you've now experienced on the trails.
