Sydney to Southern Highlands
After leaving Sydney, you'll drive into the Southern Highlands countryside to reach Berrima, one of Australia's best-preserved Georgian towns. Once there, walk through the historic convict-era sandstone gaol to get a sense of what life was like in those early colonial days. Later in the morning, you'll head to Gold Creek Station, a working sheep and cattle farm, where the owners will talk through farm operations before you sit down for a barbecue lunch on the grounds. From there, it's on to Parliament House where you can either wander the grounds or take a self-guided tour of the architecturally striking building at your own pace.

Walk through beautifully arranged flower beds in different patterns and themes, and there's entertainment and market stalls to check out as well. After grabbing lunch, a guided tour takes you through the National Arboretum with an expert who'll explain what you're seeing. The arboretum has over 44,000 rare and endangered trees across 94 forests covering 250 hectares, so there's plenty to take in including themed gardens and the Margaret Whitlam Pavilion.
