Itinerary
- Day 1
Saranda to Gjirokaster to Përmet
You'll start in Saranda and head to Gjirokaster, a UNESCO World Heritage city. The castle there offers views across the valley, and you can spend time walking through the Old Bazaar where there are shops and cafes mixed throughout the narrow lanes. The Skenduli House gives you a look at traditional architecture from the area. After that, you'll continue on to Përmet where the thermal baths are the main draw. The water's warm and you can also swim in the river nearby if you want to cool off.

Përmet to Korça to Ohrid
This leg takes you to Korça, a town with narrow streets and local cafes where you can get a sense of how people live here. There are museums and galleries scattered around that show traditional Albanian culture. Later you'll head to Ohrid, which sits on Ohrid Lake just across the border in North Macedonia. This UNESCO site has churches and monasteries that go back to the 9th century, and people call it the 'Jerusalem of the Balkans' because of the religious significance. You'll stay overnight by the lake.

Ohrid to Tirana
After breakfast in Ohrid, you'll drive to Tirana, Albania's capital. Once there, head to Skanderbeg Square, which is really the center of everything with major buildings around it. The National History Museum tells you about Albania's past, and nearby you can see the Et'hem Bey Mosque with its nice details. The streets have colorful buildings and busy markets to walk through. You'll have time on your own to check things out however you want before spending the night in the city.

Tirana to Berat to Saranda
You'll visit Berat, another UNESCO World Heritage site known for its Ottoman-era buildings. The Mangalem neighborhood has narrow streets with old houses and stone paths to walk through. Head up to Berat Castle for views of the town and the land around it. The Ethnographic Museum shows you how people lived here over time and what the culture is like. By evening you'll head back to Saranda where this part of the trip ends.
