Itinerary
- Day 1
Marrakech to Mhamid
Leave Marrakech early in the morning and head into the High Atlas Mountains, where you'll stop at a few traditional Berber villages to get a sense of local life. The drive takes you to Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO-listed kasbah that sits dramatically on a hillside overlooking the valley. You'll have lunch in Ouarzazate before continuing south through Draa Valley toward Mhamid, which is where the Sahara really begins. Bring layers since mountain temperatures can drop to around 50°F/10°C at higher elevations despite daytime warmth.

- Day 2
Erg Chegaga
Switch into 4x4 vehicles and drive deeper into the Sahara Desert from Mhamid. Your first stop is the Sacred Oasis of Oum Laalag, where you can walk around and see how an oasis functions in this harsh environment. From there, you'll head to Erg Chegaga, massive sand dunes that stretch across the horizon. Late afternoon brings a camel trek out across the dunes, timed so you catch the sunset from way out there. After that, you arrive at the desert camp where dinner happens under the stars with live Berber music and performances.

- Day 3
Erg Chegaga to Marrakech
Rise early to catch sunrise light spreading across the dune landscape, then pack up and start heading back north toward Marrakech. The route crosses Iriki Lake, a seasonal salt flat that creates an otherworldly white expanse (depending on water levels). You'll pass through Foum Zguid and Taznakht, where local artisans produce handcrafted Berber carpets you can stop and browse if interested. The drive back takes most of the day, and you'll roll into Marrakech by evening, completing the loop through mountain, valley, and desert terrain.
