    Bucharest to Rousse

    You'll arrive in Bucharest by 2 pm and head straight to board your ship by 5 pm. Spend the evening checking out your Avalon Suite accommodations and getting settled in. Dinner happens onboard before the ship sets sail overnight toward Rousse.

  2. Day 2

    Rousse

    Rousse gives you several options for the day. You can join a bike tour with your Adventure Host, take a guided tour of Bulgaria's largest inland port plus Holy Trinity Church and the UNESCO rock-hewn churches at Ivanovo, or go on a full-day excursion to Veliko Tarnovo to see ancient stone houses and 15th-century revival architecture in Arbanassi. After exploring, the ship cruises overnight to either Svistov or Vidin.

    Vidin

    In Vidin, you can wander around on your own, join your Adventure Host for a bike ride, or take a guided tour to Belogradchik to see rock formations that formed over 200 million years ago, followed by a stop at Baba Vida Fortress. Back onboard this evening, there's a live Bulgarian folklore show for entertainment.

    Donji Milanovac

    The ship sails through the Iron Gates Gorge, a narrow passage forming the natural border between Serbia and Romania. You'll take a guided tour to Lepenski Vir, an important Mesolithic archaeological site where you can see prehistoric artifacts and learn about ancient cultures. From there, you head to Golubac Fortress, one of Europe's best-preserved medieval structures.

    Belgrade awaits where the Danube and Sava Rivers meet. You have choices: walk through the central walkway with your Adventure Host, join a guided sightseeing tour to see Saint Sava, one of the world's largest Orthodox churches, or check out Knez Mihailova Street on your own. There's also an onboard lecture about Balkan history and culture if you prefer to stay on the ship.

In Passau, you can take a guided hike from Oberhaus down to the valley and along the Ilz River, or join a guided city walk through the 'City of Three Rivers.' There's free time to walk through cobblestone streets, check out Artists' Alley galleries, or catch a concert rehearsal at St. Stephen's Cathedral. After that, a short sail continues to Vilshofen.

    We would like to thank our Statesman Attendee that took care of all our needs in our room 107. He was friendly and did an amazing job, Marisio our waiter served us with the highest respect and friendliness. Over all Avalon have very good staff and always a smile- nothing too much trouble. The ship was so clean, food was spectacular. We had a surprise group of singers Gwen and Charles who brought great entertainment. The other entertainer was amazing. Loved the top deck BBQ. We met lots of new friends aboard. Thank you Avalon for a trip well executed.

For tours departing after February 3rd, 2026, a minimum payment of $750 is required to confirm your booking with Avalon Waterways. The final payment will be automatically charged to your credit card on the designated due date. The final payment of the remaining balance is required at least 95 days prior to the departure date of your tour. TourRadar never charges you a booking fee and will charge you in the stated currency.
