After the hotel goes over weather conditions with you, a pickup takes you to the airfield for your chartered jet flight. - Days 3 - 6
Union Glacier
Four days at Union Glacier while meteorologists track weather for your South Pole window. Each morning includes a briefing to plan the day around conditions and what your group wants to do. You can head out to places like Elephant's Head with its marble headlands and blue ice pools, Drake Icefall for incredible ice formations, Charles Peak Windscoop for ice climbing, or Rossman Cove for beach walks and views. Between excursions, cross-country skiing or fat biking on groomed trails keeps you active, or you can relax with tea in the camp library and catch evening talks. When weather clears, a ski plane takes you 4-6 hours over the polar plateau to the South Pole at 90 degrees south. You'll see the U.S. research station (if staff are around), stand at the marker where all longitudes meet, photograph the pole, then fly back to camp the next day.
