At Breisach, you have several options to choose from. You can head to Riquewihr, a charming Alsatian town with 16th-century architecture and the historic Dolder Gate. Another option takes you to Freiburg to see the Gothic Münster cathedral. If you prefer being active, there's cycling through the countryside or exploring the Black Forest region with its cuckoo clocks, half-timber houses, and castles scattered throughout.

Alternatively, join a guided bike ride through the city and park if you'd rather pedal around.

Ludwigshafen
From Ludwigshafen, you'll choose between three excursions. Heidelberg offers a medieval setting in the Neckar River Valley with its red sandstone Heidelberg Castle and the Great Vat, an 18th-century wine cask holding 49,000 gallons. The Philosopher's Path hike gives you panoramic views. Speyer is another option, one of Germany's oldest cities with Europe's largest Romanesque cathedral. Later, the ship sails to Rüdesheim where you can visit Siegfried's Mechanical Instrument Cabinet or try the famous Rüdesheimer Coffee made with brandy.

If you prefer, explore the Cologne Cathedral, a 13th-century Gothic UNESCO site that was the world's tallest building when completed and survived World War II bombing. Active guests can bike along the Rhine and through the Stadtgarten historic area.
