  1. Day 1

    Salzburg

    You'll arrive in Salzburg and have time to wander the winding alleyways on your own schedule. The city has a real cultural energy to it, so take your time checking things out. Stop by local cafés scattered throughout the old town and try some authentic Austrian pastries and cakes. It's a good day to get your bearings and settle in before the cycling starts.

  2. Day 2

    Salzburg to Golling

    Starting early, you'll cycle leisurely from Salzburg through the Salzach river pastures heading toward Hallein. The former Celtic mining town has a museum worth visiting to learn about its history. From there, you'll continue cycling past Golling waterfall and eventually reach Golling, a market town with a 13th-century castle. The pace is relaxed and the scenery stays nice throughout.

  3. Day 3

    Golling to St. Johann

    Today involves cycling uphill to Pass Lueg where you get views of the Tennengebirge mountain range. After that, you'll ride along the river Salzach and pass the Salzachöfen gorge, which has quite a dramatic landscape. To reach St. Johann, you'll pass Werfen castle along the way. If the cycling feels like too much, there's a train option from Golling to Werfen that covers about 15km less distance.

    St. Johann to Bad Gastein

    You'll cycle along the river Salzach to Schwarzach, then hop on a train that takes you into the Gastein valley. From the train station, cycling resumes through Dorfgastein and Bad Hofgastein. By evening you'll reach Bad Gastein, a spa and winter sports resort located at the foot of the Hohen Tauern mountains. The setting here is quite dramatic with the mountains around you.

    Bad Gastein to Mölltal Valley

    This day is shorter on the bike. You'll cycle from Bad Gastein to Böckstein, then take a 10-minute train ride through the Tauern pass and cross over to the other side of the Alps to Mallnitz. After the train, you'll finish with a long descent by bike down through the Mölltal valley to your hotel. Most of the work is done and you'll be coasting downhill for much of it.

    Mölltal Valley to Spittal an der Drau

    Cycling along the river Möll today puts you in the heart of alpine mountain scenery. You'll reach Möllbrücke, which marks where you enter the Drau valley and head into Austria's sunny south. The final stretch to Spittal an der Drau is easier riding and the town itself is historic, having served as an important medieval pilgrimage stop. By late afternoon you should be settled in.

  7. Day 7

    Spittal an der Drau to Villach

    The cycling today is mostly downhill and requires minimal effort as you follow the river Drau. Partway through, you'll stop in the charming market town of Paternion to rest and grab something to eat. Then it's an easy ride continuing to Villach, a town with a historic centre that has a real southern character to it. This is a relaxed day to coast into the final stretch.

    Villach

    Everything was so well organised we could just relax and ride the bikes. We hired bikes and they were in great condition and gave us no problems- I would definitely recommend this holiday. The accomodation was excellent too.
