Itinerary
- Day 1
Puerto Montt to Puerto Varas
You'll touch down at Puerto Montt airport and grab your rental car for the drive to Puerto Varas, sitting right on Llanquihue Lake. Spend your afternoon walking the waterfront promenade and settling into a cafe with views of the snow-capped volcanoes across the water.

- Day 2
Puerto Varas to Hornopirén
Drive along Lake Llanquihue's shoreline and head into the Pacific side at Reloncavé. Stop for lunch at Puelo's natural hot springs to relax and warm up, then continue on to Hornopirén. If you're interested, there's hiking available in the national park nearby, or you can take it easy after the drive.

Hornopirén to Caleta Gonzalo
Today's a travel day crossing the fjords using two different ferries, which takes about 4.5 hours total. The Comau fjord is the standout section with thick forest covering the mountain ranges on both sides. You'll arrive at Caleta Gonzalo, the entrance to Pumalín National Park. After settling in, head out on some shorter hiking trails before spending the night in a bungalow.

Caleta Gonzalo to Lago Yelcho
Multiple hiking options are open today. See the ancient alerce trees that grow in this region, and if you're up for it, climb Chaitén volcano to watch how the landscape is recovering since the 2008 eruption. Pioneer plants and wild fuchsia are growing back, attracting native hummingbirds. Later, head toward Lago Yelcho for the night.

Landmarks Chaitén Volcano Lago Yelcho - Day 5
Lago Yelcho
From Lago Yelcho, you'll explore the southeastern part of Pumalín National Park. Pick between a difficult hike up to one of Michimahuida volcano's glaciers or a less strenuous trail focused on learning about the local plants and animals in the region.

Lago Yelcho to Lenca
Fit in one last hike depending on what the ferry schedule allows. Then board the ferry back to Hornopirén and relax while watching the quiet fjord landscape pass by. After docking, drive north to the small town of Lenca and check into your bungalow for the night.

Lenca to Puerto Montt
Drive back toward Puerto Montt along Reloncavé Bay, taking in the coastal scenery one last time. Return your rental car at the airport, then head to your next destination in Chile or catch a connecting flight through Santiago to head home.
