Ebensee
You'll arrive at your 3-star hotel or guesthouse in Ebensee, a charming resort town where the Traun River meets Lake Traunsee. The Totes Gebirge and Höllenebirge mountains frame the area, and Ebensee Bay has water sports if that interests you. Pick up your travel documents at the hotel and settle in for the week ahead.

Ebensee to Grünau im Almtal
This is a challenging hiking day through real Alpine terrain. A transfer takes you up the winding 9-kilometer Offenseebach gorge to Offensee at around 1,000 meters/3,280 feet elevation. From there, you'll follow the E4 European long-distance hiking trail around pristine mountain lakes with dramatic reflections. The route passes through the Weißeneggbach valley below the Weißhorn, then continues to the emerald-colored Almsee lake, which is fully protected and remarkably clean. Transfer to Grünau for the night.

Grünau im Almtal
Today's completely free, so you can explore the Almtal valley at your own pace. The Alm is one of Austria's cleanest rivers with lots of wildlife and plant species around. You could visit the Cumberland Wildlife Park to see native animals, or head to the FischAlm fish farm and try some freshly grilled fish. It's your call on how to spend the day.

Grünau im Almtal to Ebensee
Your final hiking day takes you through pristine meadows and mountain pastures with great Alpine views. You'll follow the raftsmen's path past forest and hamlets, then climb through serpentine forest and meadow slopes to reach Lake Laudach. The views of Traunstein and Katzenstein mountains are the payoff for the effort. Stop at Ramsaualm for more views above the lake, then descend via cable car from Grünberg mountain to Gmunden. Take the scenic tram to Gmunden train station, then the train back to Ebensee.

Ebensee (Departure)
Your final morning before heading home. If you've booked an extended stay, consider a relaxing walk along the brine pipeline path, a swim at the nearby Langbath Lakes, or a trip up Feuerkogel mountain at around 1,500 meters/4,920 feet elevation in the Höllenebirge Mountains. Otherwise, it's time to pack and head back today.
