- Day 1
Bad Goisern
You'll arrive in Bad Goisern, a charming spa town sitting on Lake Hallstatt. Depending on when you get there, there's a nice walk available along the Traun River using the popular Traunreiterweg trail if you have time. Stop by your hotel to pick up travel documents and settle in.

Bad Goisern to Goiserer Hütte
Head uphill from Bad Goisern, passing the Obermuth farmstead through wooded terrain toward Goisererhütte at around 1,600 meters. This hike runs about 10 km and takes roughly 4.5 hours with 1,204 meters of elevation gain. You'll pass the historic Kalmoos Church tucked into a rock cave along the way. If you're up for it, there's an optional detour to Hoher Kalmberg's 1,833-meter summit for views of the surrounding area.

Goiserer Hütte to Gosau
Today's a longer hiking day with great views throughout. Start by descending to Iglmoosalm along historic Bible Trail paths through Schartenalm with its old hay barns. You'll walk a ridge bordered by Tennengebirge and Hoher Dachstein, then head along Salzkammergut Trail through Zwieselalm to Vorderer Gosausee, known locally as 'the Eye of God.' The full Gosau Valley hike covers approximately 22 km over 7.5 hours with 950 meters up and 1,771 meters down.

Gosau to Hallstatt
Another day full of natural sites starting with an ascent through high forest from Gosau. Check out historic grindstone quarries that operated for 400 years, then walk wooden boardwalks over Austria's unique blanket bog to Löckernmoossee lake. Stop at Rossalm pasture for traditional alpine snacks made with farm products. From there, head to Dammwiese saddle where salt was mined over 2,000 years ago, finishing at Hallstatt Salt Mine and its Welterbeblick viewing platform overlooking Lake Hallstatt. Roughly 16.5 km over 6.5 hours with 1,020 meters up and 1,254 meters down.

Hallstatt to Bad Goisern
Spend time in Hallstatt's market town with its shingled houses, half-timbered buildings, and pastel facades. Take a morning boat from Hallstatt Market to the train station. After that, hike along Lake Hallstatt's eastern shore with views of the Dachstein Mountains. You'll walk the suspended staircase with views over the water where Sarstein's slopes drop almost straight down into the lake. Then continue back to Bad Goisern. About 11 km over 3 hours with 131 meters of elevation gain and 156 meters of descent.
