I would highly recommend booking a tour rather than trying to navigate the sites independently. Pros: - The guides were awesome. They are knowledgeable, open to sharing both history and culture, and take great care of you during the tours. They also made for fantastic photographers, each of them taking great pictures for us. - Mahipal, our driver, was great! He expertly navigated the roads, ensured we had water at all times, managed our schedule, and made us feel we were in safe and capable hands the entire time. - The company accommodated a request for an additional day tour through Delhi, as our flight arrived 1 day before tour arrival - accommodating airport transfer (no issues with a 1am airport pick up and 5am airport drop off) - great value for services and accommodations Cons: - the cleanliness of some of the hotels was questionable A few surprises, not necessarily issues but weren’t clear in the description: - the driver stays with you most of the time (we had a different driver in Delhi for our extra add on day) - the tour guides vary based on the city (so we had a different guide each day, rather than one who traveled with us) - we did not expect to be taken to so many fine art shops to buy handmade Indian goods. They’ll take you to high quality shops, where you’ll learn of the trade, which added to the cultural experience, but we felt pressured to buy. Bargain, even if it feels inappropriate. - be aware of the severe air pollution, which made us sick.
