The home stays and farm visit were an eye opener. And the temples, they're everywhere one more ornate than the other and so beautiful. - LELisa· January 15th, 2020The agenda was excellent and the guide, Ole, exceptional. However, the communication between Tourradar and customers as to what to expect and to bring could have been better. None of the homestays had toilet paper or any type of soap, the bathroom doors didn't shut properly, and the second homestay was dirty and uncomfortable. I've stayed at homestays before and they don't need to be that primitive. In addition, our welcome gift was a bag that stated in bold letters "SAY NO TO PLASTICS"; yet, I used more plastic during this tour than I have used in the past 5 years combined. The only water available to drink had to be purchased in small plastic bottles. The homestays obviously appreciated the profit, but the other customers and I were extremely upset at the amount of plastic that we were forced to generate.Show moreIntrepid Travel commented on this reviewThanks so much Lisa. We always try to make clean drinking water available, through filters or purchasing in bulk, but that is not always possible. However, we love your commitment toward using less plastic and can assure you we will do all that we can... Show moreTrip date: December 2019

- APhillip G· September 18th, 2019Our tour guide was incredible and looked after us amazingly well. She made sure we tried all of the foods and saw all of the markets. Even on our free days she was on hand to show us around and make sure we were safe. My partner got ill and she took her to a doctor and translated for her so she was seen and had medication within 15 mins. The trekking started in heavy rain and Is had alternative plans sorted before we had even woken up. The trip wouldn't have been the same without our guide.Show moreTrip date: December 2018
- AAnne R· September 18th, 2019I was brilliantly well looked after by our group leader Is, who went out of her way every day to make sure everything we needed was taken care of. Asked on September 11th, 2024Is it possible to start this tour on 10th October? OR is it possible to meet the tour in Chiang Mai? It's just we have booked flights to Siem Reap arriving 6th October and are staying 3 nights. Really want to do this tour but we have already committed to Siem Reap.
- Intrepid TravelOperator•Written September 2024
We can reach out to our team in destination to see if they are okay with you meeting up with the group in Chiang Mai on Day 6. The issue if because this is a packaged tour we are not able to discount the trip based off the missed days so pricing will not change.

Asked on August 21st, 2024How far are the treks on days 10, 11 and 12, and is it just a day bag we need to take for that (i.e. our luggage is taken separately)?
- Intrepid TravelOperator•Written August 2024
On Days 10, 11, and 12, the trek distances are as follows: Day 10: Approximately 4 km, Day 11: Approximately 10.5 km, Day 12: Approximately 6.5 km. During the trek, we leave our main piece of luggage at the guesthouse and collect it at the end of the trek. You will need to bring along a comfortable overnight pack (about 30-35 litres/8-9 gallons) for trekking. Most trek equipment can be rented in Chiang Mai before the start of the trek. Backpack, roll mat, sleep bag, re-hydration salts and water bottle holder will cost approximately US$25 for the three days.

Traveler•Written August 2024Do we need a complete sleeping kit for the hike? I understand the need for a sleeping bag. Does the accomodation not have mattresses, hence needing roll mats etc which we'd have to carry with us?
- Intrepid TravelOperator•Written August 2024
You will need a complete sleeping kit for the hike. However, to avoid carrying excess luggage, most trek equipment can be rented in Chiang Mai before the start of the trek. Backpack, roll mat, sleep bag, re-hydration salts and water bottle holder will cost approximately US$25 for the three days.

Asked on August 5th, 2024How many hours a day are the walks? How difficult are they? a lot of climbing uphill or relatively flat? How much do we need to carry in our backpacks on those walks?
- L
Lucy
Traveler•Written August 2024One more question: Will the trip 100 % go ahead, or is there a chance it will be canceled due to insufficient participation?
- Intrepid TravelOperator•Written August 2024
The Hilltribe village trek duration will be as below, Day 10 - approximately 2 hours or 4 km. Day 11 - approximately 5 hours or 10.5 km. Day 12 - approximately 2.5 hours to 6.5 km. The hike will include trekking across hilly countryside, and rain or hot, humid weather can pose extra challenges. You'll need to be moderately fit to enjoy all activities. The terrain is rural rather than jungle – the hilltribes grow rice and other vegetables on the slopes – and you'll trek along village tracks. There's also the possibility of some shallow river crossings. Each traveler carries their own pack for the whole trek – please see the 'What To Take' section of the Essential Trip Information for luggage requirements. All meals are included while trekking, but you'll need to purchase and carry your own water (please allow approximately USD 10 to cover your water purchase for the trek).

Asked on April 8th, 2023I am an active 73 year old. Walk each day on flat around 6 kilometres. Question. The walking trekking - is it hilly? How rigorous ??
- Intrepid TravelOperator•Written April 2023
The trek on this trip although we are not walking at altitude or setting any distance records each day, the trek can still be demanding, as we walk through hilly terrain with our packs, and the temperature is often hot. We recommend that you undertake regular aerobic exercise in the weeks before you travel, Walking, jogging, swimming or riding a bike are all good ways to increase your aerobic fitness, which will allow you to enjoy the trek to its fullest.
