The tour was great and saw a lot of animals. We were able to see many animals at all the parks and various sights to see through all three countries. My biggest complaint is that there are many long drives which I understand but the bus was not very comfortable on the roads. Luckily, there were a few of us so we could spread out but if you had a full tour, it would not be comfortable. Also, lunch was to be included but on some days, we were given money to buy ourselves something. That would be fine if it was enough to buy something to eat where we stopped. Either provide more funds or plan on packing lunch that we could eat on the road (which we did a couple of days). Lastly, if you indicate that they are optional add-ons, you should have the information on how we can do them at the stops and make sure there is enough time to do them. We missed whale watching because we didn't know we had to book it ourselves a head of time. If traveling in the winter months, be prepared to be cold during the night and the mornings, but the termperatire did warm up through out the day.

It was an awesome and fantastic experience, mainly because of our phenomenal guide Papa G! I was very impressed by all his background knowledge, about wild life, history, politics and everything! Moreover he has the right spirit to engage the whole group and give everyone a fantastic time. And he is a great chef!!! For my next trip to Africa I would definitely look to book a trip lead by Papa G!!!

Great tour with amazing people and very knowledgeable guide & driver! Thoroughly enjoyed the mix of safari, nature, hiking, exploring and engaging with the local residents. Great selection of additional activities, so that everybody could individually decide what to do and follow his interests. G was the best guide we could have asked for! He also prepared very tasty meals every day and shared a lot of interesting aspects and personal stories of his southafrican live. I had the best time travelling with Acacia and I would highly recommend this tour with G!

The last leg of our three stages travelling Cape Town to Cape Town. Gee was an absolutely fantastic guide - very knowledgeable about the places, people, history, animals....every topic you could think of! Always happy to answer any further questions or just have a chat. Excellent sense of humour and very witty (especially in a musical sense). The tour would not have been as enjoyable without Gee as our guide.

    Asked on August 8th, 2025

I'm looking for information about planning a trip in May 2027. I noticed that departures for that period aren't advertised yet, would the itinerary and pricing be similar to what's currently available? This trip is for my 50th birthday, and I'm planning to go with a small group of friends. I don't have a final headcount yet, but I'm currently researching options, availability, and pricing. Also, could you let me know what type of accommodations are included in the package, are they typically 4-star or 5-star hotels?

Our tour itineraries for the most part remain the same. The 2027 departure dates and tour costs have not been finalized yet. We mainly use accommodation situated in comfortable and picturesque locations with a pool, restaurant, and bar. We have not designed the tour with international standard hotels in mind but instead have sourced privately owned properties more suited to the environment and to Acacia's philosophy of helping local benefit from tourism. Kindly note, these are not 4-star or 5-star properties.

Do you have pictures of the accommodations available? Is it easy to book for a small group all of us together? What is the earliest date we can reserve for May 2027?

    • Acacia Adventure HolidaysOperatorWritten August 2025

Please see attached Tour Dossier, therein lists the name of the accommodation used, typically. You are welcome to google the places as we do not have images to send via this portal. Adventure tours have a minimum of 6 passengers and a maximum of 18 passengers. The camping and accommodated tours run together (same vehicle, same route etc). We accept a maximum of 8 accommodated passengers per tour. The 2027 dates and rates should be available by mid-December.

Is there camping involved or is it shared rooms? Where does it start in Pretoria, is it from a specific hotel and are you transferred direct to Cape town airport on the last day?

    • Acacia Adventure HolidaysOperatorWritten February 2025

The accommodated tour does not have any camping; accommodation is in twin share rooms. If you are a solo traveller then we would put you in a share room with another solo traveller of the same sex. If we do not happen to have another solo of same sex then you would have a room to yourself (but we do not promise or guarantee that in advance).

What is the adventure pass? Does it cover optional tours offered in free time during the tour?

    • Acacia Adventure HolidaysOperatorWritten March 2025

Every adventure tour has an Adventure Pass which is paid to your tour leader in Africa at the beginning of the tour. This is separate and in addition to the Tour Price, and covers selected park entries, activities and excursions along the way. It covers: 2 days, Kruger National Park, Game Drives, St Lucia Boat Cruise, Sani Pass Excursion and Cango Caves Visit. Optional activities are not covered by the Adventure Pass. These are to be arranged/booked locally and directly.

How strict are Contiki about age range? Although I am older than 35, I enjoy these activities/tours more. Is it just a guide line?

    • Acacia Adventure HolidaysOperatorWritten February 2025

Our tours are not part of Contiki, we are Acacia Africa operators. Our Adventure tours are for 18-75 years.

My wife and I have traveled with Tour Radar before and actually have a credit in our account. We are interested in the 20-day South African tour, but we are slightly above the age limit of 75. We are 77 and 78. Is the rule inflexible?

    • Acacia Adventure HolidaysOperatorWritten January 2025

We have to keep to the upper age limit of 75 years because of commitments we have made to travel agents worldwide who support us on this tour. We have our Signature Safasris range and also our Small Group tours which you should be able to see on the Tour Radar site, and which are open aged.

What is the Adventure Pass for $180 per person, local payment? Optional or mandatory?

    • Acacia Adventure HolidaysOperatorWritten May 2024

Every adventure tour has an Adventure Pass which is paid to your tour leader in Africa at the beginning of the tour (or pre-paid by arrangement prior to your tour). This is separate and in addition to the Tour Price, and covers selected park entries, activities and excursions along the way where payment goes directly to the supplier to ensure local suppliers benefit directly from the income. For this tour, the Adventure Pass is USD 180.00, although optional it is highly suggested. It covers: Kruger National Park entry fees, Cango Caves, Sani Pass Excursion and the St Lucia Boat Cruise.

When will September 2026 dates be available? What meals are provided on the tour? What type of accommodations will we stay in? What is the price for adding two nights of pre-accommodation? We usually release dates and prices for the new year in Oct/Nov, but we are not expecting major changes from this year's programme. Most meals are provided, sometimes the tour leader will ask for help but it is not a huge chore and most people enjoy taking part and helping the tour run. Properties used on tour are mostly small, tourist class properties - most rooms twin bedded with en suite bathroom - but they are not star-rated properties.

Would it be possible to join the group a few days later, or leave the group days earlier? The problem for us is that we don't have 20 days available but only about ten.

The 20 day tour actually comprises two separate trips which run consecutively. the first is 7 days Pretoria to Durban, and second is 12 days Durban to Cape Town. All tours for 2024 are currently available.
