What people love about touring Western USA solo
- 7 day Southwest National Parks Grand Canyon Tour
The 7-day tour to the most amazing and impressive national parks and jewels of the Southwest was a great success. The duration of the tour allows a reasonably relaxed round trip with not too long daily drives and plenty of time for walks and hikes etc. The group size was in our case 11 people and was international and mixed with age. Thus, we had more than enough space in the minibus with 15 seats. The accommodations were all absolutely fine. The hotel check-in was always by Mike, our tour guide. Breakfast was included and a hot tub was always ready to relax the tired legs. We were twice surprised by bad weather (including blizzard!). Mike, the tour guide, has been quick to respond to the weather by spontaneous program changes and his vast knowledge of the area. In such moments, an organized tour pays off. You do not have to say much about the highlights of the tour - except that Mike chose the program suggestions in the individual parks (walks, viewpoints, exhibits etc.) very cleverly, optimizing our experience of the parks in the best possible way. So we had a really unforgettable tour! Highly recommended!
- 3 Day Southwest USA National Parks Tour from Las Vegas
3 Day National Parks Tour From Las Vegas With Bindlestiff Tours We were a group of 13, well traveled adults,in our 60’s, who wanted a tour of the Grand Canyon, Bryce, and Zion before returning to Las Vegas. We only had 3 days to do it and with Rachel’s help it was an outstanding success. I can’t say enough about how helpful Rachel was in determining the timing, order and deciding where to stay on the 2 nights we were on the trip. Rachel was delightful, friendly, knowledgeable, professional, and extremely considerate. She was always aware of our physical comfort and needs. We had some physical restrictions so options for hikes, and other activities were always offered. Ours was a custom, private tour. Rachel picked us up at the Las Vegas airport with a van and trailer for our luggage and took us right to the home we were renting on our return. Absolutely outstanding trip, I highly recommend Rachel and her company. (The other 12 in our group concur on that too!)
- Wild Western USA
The tour was amazing. Everything was just how it should be, this was only possible because of our amazing tour guide Chris Patric! Our campgrounds and hotels were just fine. Special Greetings from Berlin. I had the time of my life.
What our customers ask about Western USA Tours for Solo Travelers
How easy is it to meet other travelers as a solo participant on Western USA tours?
More than half of Western USA tour bookings come from solo travelers making it easy to connect with like-minded people. The tours create natural opportunities to socialize through shared activities from group dinners at local spots like Rustler's Rooste in Phoenix to hiking together in Yosemite or enjoying evening shows in Las Vegas. As one traveler put it: "Made more and better friends in 2 weeks on this trip than I have in the last 2-3 years of my life. There is no one I wouldn't be stoked about meeting again."
What type of accommodation can solo travelers expect on Western USA tours?
You'll stay in a mix of hotels and campgrounds depending on your tour. Some tours like G Adventures' "Wild Western USA" split the stays between 6 nights camping and 3 nights in hotels. Hotel options range from the Brandin' Iron Inn in West Yellowstone to camping experiences in Zion National Park. Solo travelers usually share rooms or tents with another same-gender traveler unless they choose to pay extra for private accommodation. The camping portions often lead to friendships through shared meals and evenings around the campfire.
Which areas of Western USA are most solo traveler-friendly?
Major cities like Las Vegas and San Francisco along with national parks such as Yosemite and Grand Canyon work well for solo travel. These places combine organized activities safe environments and chances to meet others. The Grand Canyon offers ranger-led hikes and talks while cities provide hostel stays and social meetups. A recent traveler noted: "Las Vegas was incredibly solo-friendly - between the organized Strip tours and group activities it was easy to meet people and never feel alone."
What should solo travelers pack for a Western USA tour?
Pack clothes that work for different weather conditions. You'll need sturdy hiking boots for places like Bryce Canyon layers for temperature swings between Death Valley and Yosemite's highlands and a reliable daypack. If your tour includes camping bring a sleeping bag and pillow. Hotels like the Grand Vista in Grand Junction provide standard amenities but the outdoor portions require specific gear.
How are meals typically handled for solo travelers on Western USA tours?
Tours usually cover some meals especially breakfast. Many offer optional group meal plans like Intrepid's "Vegas to San Fran" tour which suggests a $20 daily food kitty for shared meals. You'll find picnic lunches during national park visits and group dinners at places like the Flying Saddle Resort in Alpine. These shared meals often become key social moments where solo travelers bond with their group.
